So a "friend" posted this pic...
She's fairly anti-gay and the only reason I haven't un-friended her is because we really were good friends at one point and she believes it's some sort of religious mandate...

So naturally I replied to this "So basically "nothing" lol"
We'll see how it goes...

man. Ive just spent the better part of the morning having 3 separate conversations...one on gay marriage where a dude accused me of having no moral fiber because I follow no religion, then when he got called out by my friend and I, he deleted all his posts lol. One about people choosing to be ignorant, and one about general religion/gay marriage. I usually stay out of them because it stresses me out how some people think...I was a little bored lol.

It's amazing what people come up with. I love the one where a devout rightie Christian will tell me since I'm a liberal, that we liberals all deal in emotion and can't deal with logic and the real world...
I'm like... wait a sec... You base your whole world view on the concept of asking an imaginary guy in the sky for favors, which you believe he then grants you, and I'm the one with a problem with reality?

Isn't marriage a religeous thing? I mean it's a uniting in the name of god, and you need a pastor, priest.... Why would any non-religeous or gay person want to be married? It's f'ing retarded.

The anti-religeous are just as bad as the religeous, just as annoying, just as persistent in their hate. You're all a bunch of loons.

Not in this country. It's a legal status more than it has to do with religion.

The people fighting against gay marriage are in a battle they can't possibly win. Even if it doesn't happen to right now, it will happen in the lifetime of people who are currently under 30. I can't get worked up over something that is an eventuality.

Ding ding ding.
In the eyes of all levels of Govt., a "marriage" is just a binding contract between two consenting adults. Nothing more. Strike the word Marriage from all Govt. forms and dockets and call them all Civil Unions. Thus sending this silliness back to where it began and belongs, the Catholic Church.

I'd be a big fan of civil unions where no sexual relationship is implied. That way people could enter into them or leave them at will but while in force they'd carry whatever rights and privileges the consenting adults involved specify.

In the eyes of the Government, that is exactly what they should be. Noone will ever be able to legislate sexuality.

I approve of everything in this thread.
I have a lot of conservative friends on FB and most of them are being surprisingly quiet. The only ones who ARE saying anything are saying things like "the pro gay marriage people are being really mean and calling is names like 'bigot.'"
Just because you have an unpopular opinion doesn't mean you should be persecuted for your beliefs, sure. But using a fictional book that's thousands of years old written in a different language by dozens of people on the other side of the world to keep your homosexual neighbors from enjoying the same freedoms you have is kind of being a bigot.

This is quite the statement.
So any two people - roomates if you will - can declare a civil union and the state will give them all the rights of married couples?
So all dorm roomates can now be 'married' - and be subject to all the common property, insurance, deductions, protection from testifying, filing joint taxes, etc.??
You might as well just do away with all marriage at that point.

Obviously they'd have a reason for doing so, but if two people, regardless of their relationship want to go in together and share their lives they should be able to do so regardless. Say a couple of siblings who want to buy a house together and raise their kids. They'd be able to set it up so that if something happened to one the other would be able to take care of stuff, just like a "Marriage" now except obviously there's no sexual component.

I can't even believe it's an issue. I think it's a smoke screen to keep people from worrying about important shit.

Marriage isn't religious.
I am married but it had nothing to do with religion only love or something like that
