I like this plug, use it on occasion on things that sound a little too clean and forward - I feel like this plug pushes things "backwards", adds a bit of haze between you and the sound, and generally makes things more controlled, say if you throw it on a drum bus or the lead vocal channel. No idea if it sounds like tape, because I've never used tape. It does sound and do a very different thing to Waves J37 though, so I like having both.
The other VOS plugs are great, NastyDLA is my go-to delay plugin and TeslaPRO is great for getting a bit of life into tracks. It's distortion, but it's really subtle. Really my only gripe is that the plugs seem designed to operate around 0dbFS so if I want more than "very subtle" from them I need to boost the volume up before the plug then back down afterwards, but VOS are hardly alone in that.
