I have some M-Audio BX8 Carbons which are nice but fear they may be too big for the new studio space which is approx 10.5' x 12'

I hear the Equator name come up quite a bit as of late and the GearSlutz folks seem to rate the D5's pretty well.

Love my D8s. Clear with great bass response.

No idea... Probably like 15' x 15' maybe?? with a pecuiliar shape due to a close cutting off one corner making it smaller than that.

I used to have a pair a few years ago. Not a ton of bass response (which was to be expected for their size), but maybe a little more than other 5" driver monitors. I remember them also being very directional, I had to put them on stands and aim them right at my ears to get a satisfactory high end response.

I see that they're $500 new now...I think they were like $300 when I got them. At that price they were a great choice, but they're not quite as attractive for 5 Benjamins. I'd try to snag a used pair.

D5's, Heard all the hype! Bought a set. Sold them.

Heard all the hype of new JBL budget LSR's. Bought a set. Sold them. Talked to a few studio guys that said stop f'ing around with kids toys.

Bought a pr of Focal CM65 mons. Still have them. Mixing is so much easier and not as fatiguing. Low end in mixes translate nicely on different listening gear. Always always had issues with mix translations with any of the others mentioned.

If you want a set just for messing around, D5, D8's are fine, JBL's are fine, KRK are fine.

If you want to spend less time correcting mixes for audio devices and other changes to eq, get a set of Focal. They even work well in a room that isn't specifically designed for mixing.

I also tried the Focal Alpha 65's. Those were about on par with the JBL Lsr 308's

^That. With monitors it pays a lot of money to go for the higher end ones from the get go instead of upgrading every 10 months. You can get a pair of Adam A5X's for about $600 used.

i have D5s. quite like them! I use a subwoofer with them though...they don't pump a lot of bass

I bought some of the new D8s but I decided to keep the D5. I didn't try the D8 so I cant offer an opinion.

There are for sale so holler at me if you want a deal on some New In Box D8

Treat the room regardless of which mons you plan on getting.
