I was poking around the interwebz at how to go about refinishing my LP studio. Its a 2006 in wine red and I've seen A MILLION of them online. So, having a pro do it is more money than its worth and I don't have the tools or space.

I googled a community wood shop and started digging. Found a thread that had been necro bumped about a community shop by a guy who owns a shop with a cnc router and spray booth! He was saying if enough people were interested, he'd do a class for cost of material.

I emailed him and said I have a guitar that needs work and he has all the toys I need to make it pretty. Offered whatever he thought was fair for shop time and a little guidance. He answered back quickly and we are going to set something up for next week in the evening.

tl;dr I'm putting binding on my studio and choosing whatever color I want for it at not much above cost!

Nice! What color are you thinking? And are you gonna bind the neck too, or just the body?

Just the body. Binding a already fretted guitar looks rather difficult. Haven't decided on a color yet but a solid color like gold or Chicago blue...maybe burgundy mist aka Heather poly.

I'd love to make a bolt-on body from scratch. That would be fun.

This site has some cool plans: http://www.guitarplansunlimited.com/

Spend a few hours (or days) on the luthier forums at mylespaul.com and tdpri.com. You'll never be the same. :rawk:

Nice necro bump :thu: That whole thing feel through for me and that guitar is now in the capable hands on Mr. Nobody. Good on you, though. Hope you get some work done!
