I think you're on point with Exodus and Testament.

I'd even go as far as some of the more obscure shit like Cro-Mags and Uncle Slam.

Change Overkill to Sodom and I'd agree.

This thread has actually re-lit the fire of metal in my soul!!!! hahahaha! This is all I used to listen to. Got more involved in blues (always on the backburner then) and stopped listening to anything metal not because I hated it but I had slightly burned out on it. When metal had the resurgence it did in the late 9o's early 2000's I was looking the other way because I felt all the new bands had no sense whatsoever of what had come out before and neither did the fan base. They just gobbled up what was "new" and figured they were legit metal heads but they're still posers in my book. I can't stand bands like hatebreed etc. I think it's like the bud-light of metal. I liked it the first time when it was called Slayer!! hahaha

Death Angel bumps Kreator or Overkill off.

What???? No way!!! I like Death Angel but a lot of their stuff seems kind of hit or miss. I think Overkill has been pretty consistently solid and really stuck to putting out good metal even when it was out of fashion.

I guess that is what makes music great though, one mans chicken can be another mans steak, but they both still get full!

Make your next demo video a cover of "Elimination" including vocals, and I will reconsider. :hmm: :rawk:

testament and exodus for sure. I'd also add Sepultura and Pantera to that, since I do consider them to be thrash, especially their earlier work.

I think Pantera definitely deserves to be on the 5-8 list. Testament, too.

I def like Sepultura and Pantera over Overkill and Kreator, agreed :thu:

Though whether they're strictly "thrash" is for the purists to debate :D

You all are disrespecting kreator. They are definitely the biggest European thrash band and consistently put out great albums. I'd love to fit Sodom in there because they are awesome along with Destruction, but I don't think they had the impact that Kreator did.

5-8 is, in no particular order:

Testament
Kreator
Exodus
Suicidal Tendencies

I had that thought in the back of my head - but saw them mentioned above.

I always thought they weren't near the level of the others - but probably just basing that on mainstream success.

I agree that they weren't near the level of the others, but they did have some good stuff. Among the Living is awesome. Regardless, they are one one of the Big 4, I'm guessing because of when they started out.

Going to go off here.

S.O.D
Believer
Tourniquet
D.R.I crossover stuff.

I like all the bands mentioned, but like S.O.D more than Anthrax.

No way. S.O.D. was a joke band, Suicidal was the only crossover band to actually crossover into thrash, and believer and tourniquet aren't really thrash. I kind of like some Tourniquet stuff because I had and Uncle who played in a Christian death metal band and he introduced me to some of that stuff. Seventh Angel is a much better Christian thrash metal band.

Psycho Surgery was a great album, and S.O.D. Was started as a joke band, but holy crap were they great. Speak English or Die is a masterpiece, intended or not. Invention of the blast beat. D.R.I. Totally crossed over. I like early Suicidal for sure, the later stuff is pretty good, but early stuff was epic.

Amazing thrash song, Ted Kirkpatrick is such a great drummer. This song will make anybody bang their head, AND have a unique sound.

Infuckingsane right here. I want to mosh every time I hear this.

Their timing, tech for the time is staggering. The lead singer, and main songwriter used all of their funds to pay for medical school, and is one of the world's leading brain surgeons. Crazy. A great, great band.

They started Grindcore, different. Pioneers, and no one else like them. Not really thrash though.

Wow! I listened to a lot of Believer back in the early 90s.
