J.A.C.K. - favorite music find in a while (updated w/ songs)
I was watching a trailer for the movie White Girls (it's supposed to be like this generation's "Kids") and it had a really interesting song so i checked it out.

Really interesting sound so i looked all over the internet and there is nothing else from them on YouTube or anywhere (unless you have a pandora subscription) but i listened to the snippets on iTunes and bought the album. Listening to it now but i'm digging it so far. A unique sound which seems rare these days. Dig the fuzzed out guitars a lot... cool tone. The guy has a great voice as well. I guess they broke up several years ago though. Anyways, thought i'd share. The song on the video doesn't really do justice to what their sound is like as a whole but man, there's some killer riffs, solos, energy, screams, really good singing, etc. Dude's voice is nuts on some of these songs. Some songs are real laid back while others are face melting. Solid song writing right here.

Re: hate when you find a band only to find out they're broke
I can't stop listening!! This is my favorite find in quite some time and there is NOTHING on the internet. Only the song i posted and a live snippet of a KILLER song (though it sounds exceptional on the record and this doesn't do it justice but i'll post it below anyways).
The only way to hear them is if you have Pandora, buy it on iTunes or buy the physical CD for $1.52 on Amazon. I just ordered a copy of the physical CD.
This review does a pretty good job of describing it. Definitely some Bon Scott, meets Axl Rose, meets Thom York vocals. So hard to describe and the styles go all over the place from song to song from so smooth to just ripping... even in the same song sometimes. The music is like psychedlic blues rock to classic rock to almost hardcore... really unique IMO. I'm in love with this band that no longer exists.
Here's the only review or article i've found on them and the live video:
"J.A.C.K. - Deletist
2009, Yabyum Records
Brooklyn-based alt-rock quarter J.A.C.K. keep the meaning of their acronym secret, but the word of mouth about their sound was uncontainable almost from the start. Three rip-roaring sons of Rock N Roll met while enrolled in New York University's music program, and after cementing their sound with the highly flying falsetto of vocalist/guitarist Scott Holland knew they had something special. Their sophomore release (and first full-length), Deletist, is out today. J.A.C.K. may be secretive about the original of their name, and DIY to the bone, but their sphere of influence is likely to expand significantly in the near future.
Deletist opens with the chaotic track Dracula, which spends most of its time as an alternative rocker but closes out with a keyboard driven classic rock section that would make Dennis DeYoung weep with joy. One thing you should understand about lead vocalist Scott Holland is that he can be something of a chameleon. On The Leader, Holland sounds like a cross between Klaus Meine and Bon Scott, whereas on a track like Extinguisher he can sound like a particularly raspy Bono. I Cut Off My Arms is perhaps the greatest “relationship gone wrong” songs I’ve ever heard, although it may be a bit disturbing for some. A distinctly poppy love song with some heavy guitar work represents the alternately lovesick and disturbed states of the protagonist. Bug appears to be a song about torture, or perhaps it’s just an allegory for crossing lines. Either way it’s at least mildly disturbing and gets your attention, right down to the lyric dueling guitar work in the bridge. Suicide Man opens with what might only be described as a gospel choir in Hell before turning into an alternately minimalist and noisy arrangement. The song itself is intriguing and definitely off the beaten track. You’ll also want to check out Summer’s War and Rainbow Blood.
J.A.C.K., J.A.C.K., J.A.C.K., what are we going to do with you? You don’t fit in with the other bands. You have some of the loftier musical ideals of a Radiohead, the occasional slow-heavy drive of Black Sabbath or Heaven And Hell, an ability to write songs like what Bono might come up on a dark day and a wonderfully and slightly worrying warped world perspective. We’ll find a place for you, because I believe a lot of people will be intrigued by your sound, I am just not sure how we present you to the world. Hey, I know! Let’s bring everyone to a show in Brooklyn! After you melt all their faces for a couple of hours they’ll be hooked! They’ll be buying copies of Deletist hand over fist!
Rating: 4 Stars (Out of 5)
You can learn more about J.A.C.K. at http://www.jackbandnyc.com/ or http://www.myspace.com/jacknyc. You can get a digital copy of Deletist at either Amazon MP3 or iTunes. If you want a hard copy, the only place to get one right now is at a live show (Face melting is included in the price of admission), but if you contact J.A.C.K. through their MySpace page perhaps they’ll hook you up."

Re: hate when you find a band only to find out they're broke
Sounds like Mars Volta to me. But what do I know, I don't really listen to this type of stuff.
Re: hate when you find a band only to find out they're broke
GuitarBilly wrote::idk: Not a fan of the songs posted. I will look deeper into it but so far I'd say they broke up for a reasonThe singer does have a cool voice, but I don't like the songs unfortunately.
Yeah, i really wish they had other stuff online. The first song i posted is somewhat indicative of their style but way more experimental sounding than their full album. The live song sounds crappy in the live recording there but it slays on the album. The 3rd video is by far the worst song on the album and doesn't fit in at all with the rest. This is all that's online though so hard to give a proper representation.
I'm going to upload the album for a friend so i'll post some of the other stuff on here. It really is worth the listen if i can get that stuff on here.

Agreed, I put t first cause I figured if any, it'd get some of the GABros digging it.
The long build on the song is great as are the insane vocals. Sounds like it could have been recorded in the 70's or now with the styles incorporated into it

Agreed, I put t first cause I figured if any, it'd get some of the GABros digging it.
The long build on the song is great as are the insane vocals. Sounds like it could have been recorded in the 70's or now with the styles incorporated into it
I listened to this track first as well. Pretty d@mn ripping

I love his voice. Quite a few tracks that rip like that on the album. There's also some great songwriting on tracks like Whorse. The lyrics on the whole thing are really good.

Re: J.A.C.K. - favorite music find in a while (updated w/ so
last thing i'm going to post about this but i thought it was really interesting and adds to the whole mystique of the band....
Like i said before, not much out there about this band at all. They were around for a couple of years during the MySpace days put out an album and a single. That was that. Some people are hearing about them due to the song on the trailer for that new movie i posted about in the OP. I wanted to hear what new bands they all went to so asked on Facebook. They gave me a list of bands they all went into but I noticed the singer wasn't in any of them. I asked if he was in any band and they said:
"Nobody knows where he is"
Did he just get up and move away and quit music all together? Bad blood and just doesn't speak to them? Is he dead?
I feel like i should do a documentary and call it "Finding J.A.C.K.: The Search For Scott Holland".
