Hello all. Brand new member. I've been playing over 40 yrs & have run the full gamut in gear. Amp wise, I currently own a Musicman 112RD, Carvin Nomad, Fender Hot Rod Deville 4X10 & Frontman 212. I got intrigued by the Quilter Micropro8 because of it's size & so called power but since it was mail order only, I couldn't see & feel one. I was very skeptical about an 8 in speaker having some bottom. A friend was looking for an amp & we ran across a Micropro8 at a local music store. The guy bought it but he lets me borrow it. I use it more than he does! I've used it for all kinds of gigs & usually unmiked & it cuts thru big time. Now the Mach II is out & I want to buy my own. Just when I'm ready to pull the trigger, here comes Henriksen with "The Bud." 135 watts, 17 lbs, fat tone out of a 6.5 in speaker?! Inquiring minds need to know so here's the question..Has anybody A/B'ed a Quilter Micropro8 Mach II against a Henriksen Bud? Btw, I'm primarily a Funk, R&B, Blues, Jazz player. Mostly Strat type guitars but have several with Humbuckers also.

I don't think there will be a member of GAB who has experience with both of those speakers. Most don't have experience outside of 12" varietals. I know i don't.
But yes, welcome to GAB!

Thanks. I never had anything smaller than a 12 inch speaker before the 10s in the Hot Rod either but the 8 in the Quilter is as fat as your average 12. The little sucker is LOUD! Headroom for days. It behaves like my tube amps but after the gig when it's breakdown time is when I dig it the most. 19 lbs? This last Saturday I did a blues festival & just walked my gear to the parking lot instead of trying to get the car behind stage. It's a wonderful thing!

I hear you on the "too good to be true" thing. I was a tubes or nothing guy but I've been converted. I think the Quilter is the Swiss Army knife while the Bud is the one trick pony but that one trick is supposed to be very good. Truth be told, all I need is a really good clean tone & my Me-80 will take care of the overdrive.
