So I am looking at:

Universal Audio Apollo 8 DUO

and

Focusrite Clarett 8Pre X

The DUO is $1999 and Clarett is $1299. I need to be able to hook up at least 4 mic's at a time. I THINK with the Apollo I get 8 free plug-ins but I also have the Slate Digital Bundle. I like the idea of the Apollo being able to handle running the plug-in's as opposed to taxing my machines CPU.


I am guessing both are more than solid enough to make me quite happy. Also grabbing a Mac Mini for dedicated recording machine. This is a "longer than short term goal" but will definitely be before end of the year. Anyone here BESIDES Ruiner (no offense ) that has experience with the UAD or Clarett line of interfaces?

The Apollo is excellent. The pre's on it are top notch, great conversion. Build like a champ and easy to use. Plus, then you'll be able to use UAD2 plug ins which are SWEEEEEEEEEET.

If you can spring for a QUAD i'd recommend doing so though if you do plan on using a lot of UAD plug ins as their new ones with Unison technology take up a lot more DSP than their old ones.

Here's a QUAD with $1300 worth of plug ins for $1595. It's Firewire though..... if your computer has Thunderbolt 2 then get that for sure.

And yes, it's AWESOME that it doesn't tax your machine's CPU. ZERO latency! Plus the console software is really great too. I love that you can use the plug ins WHILE recording, with no latency and you can write it to the track OR just hear it in your mix which is super useful. You can still use your other plug ins in your DAW so your computer uses it's CPU on that and not the UAD stuff.

Yeah my MacBook Pro has TB as will my Mac Mini. The MB Pro is my work machine. I have an iMac at home but I want to grab the Raven MTi2...

Yeah i'm having a hard time deciding between two Raven MTi2's or an Avid S3. Hoping to grab one of those this week when i make up my mind.

At that price point I'd take a look at Antelope Zen Studio.
