The studio was insanely nice, a bunch of awesome gear, and everyone there was super cool. I'll update with the few crappy pictures I took a little later. I used my own gear but the other guitarist ran a Fender Jag through a handwired AC30, bassist ran a Fender Jag bass direct, keyboard was a real nice Korg and we used a Moog unit on one song too. I forget what the drum kit was but it was but it sounded real good. Full iso-room for the guitar amps. What a cool place.
I may have slightly rose-colored glasses but I feel like I will never work at a place as fun as this either. They had a free concert from a decently well known local band during the afternoon for the employees, they get free ice cream once a week too. I'm used to fairly strict, tight-laced places that almost never do anything "extra" that is remotely fun or interesting for their employees and when they do it's completely half-assed. Oh and we also got free shoes and shirts.
The real kicker was when I got my car and went down to load in the gear while the other guys were finishing up, saying good-byes and whatnot. They came out and were all, "Dude you totally missed the craziest conversation. We were talking with the engineer and he apparently plays guitar in the Replacements." All in all an awesome day. We got to play and record music all day in a great setting with some really cool people. Unfortunately tomorrow is back to real life.
