Studio/ recording experiences

Post by Cirrus »

We did our first EP at a cool country studio with vintage gear - Neve, vintage ribbon mics etc, was great. :fap:

Then we did our next two EPs and album by ourselves - drums and bass together, everything else overdubbed. Dead sounding room, close mics etc. Learned loads but was hard work. :phone: :notme: :phair:

Now I'm thinking we should do our next recording in a decent studio with a big good-sounding live room and record basic tracks as a band - Drums, Bass and main guitar at least. Use room mics, get a big sound, then take it back to our place to do overdubs/ mixing. I feel like that might make us all bring it a bit more - being in that environment and under time pressure. I think we're getting to the point where we're tight enough to pull it off.

Anyone done it this way? Seems like these days it's more common to record yourself then get help mixing/ mastering but that seems backwards to me.
