+1 It sounds like a Bogner Shiva.

Sounds more Bogner-ish to me.

there is a good thread on TGP right now about the EL34 shiva vs the splawn quick rod. those dudes seem to think the QR sounds more angry 800ish while the shiva has a much better clean.

I've watched this before and I think this guy does a good job demoing it.

Here's my take having owned both an EL-34 Shiva and a JMP 2203:
The Shiva's lead tone is much smoother than that of the 2203. Low mids are to the Shiva as high mids and treble are to the 2203. If you took a 2203, tamed the brightness, made the controls more sensitive, gave it more gain on tap and focused it a little more on the low mids, you'd have a Shiva.

I don't have anything to add regarding the Shiva but...
Two hours and 55 views later and this same question had no replies at some other amp forum.
GAB supplied a quality answer in about 30 minutes.
I just find that interesting given the conventional wisdom that the recent pruning at the other forum has eliminated the deadwood.

I've always wanted a Shiva. I think it was the first "boutique" amp I ever heard of and it was in connection with Jerry Cantrell, so instant GAS. I've never played one though. I don't think I've ever even seen one.

Pretty much both reasons why I bought one: First boutique amp I really knew much about and Cantrell was tied to one. Sweet amp, I really regret letting mine go.

If you wanna get a Shiva, get the 20th Anny. You can get AIC tones without needing a boost pedal.

I think 800 is a fair comparison but I feel like the tone is a little beefier. Nice round low end, no fizziness. Super super nice sounding amp.

I've always had a closet-boner for a Shiva.
