What do you think of this tone?

It was an amp that Mike Fortin was working on for me. It's not 100% yet but you get the idea.
All the best!

No, Your hearing is excellent! What you are hearing is some fizz around the notes because the amp is getting it's distortion from the power section being worked. The amp has a built in variac that brings the volume down when you crank it. The amp is literally on 10 and the volume is being tamed by the variac. It is most definitely a Marshall

It's a 1972 Marshall and one of the loudest amps I've ever heard. Without the variac, id never be able to be in the same room with it

Thanks for listening!

It sounds like a kick-ass, slightly smoother, cranked up old Marshall! Fuck me that tone made me wet my pants!
I'm kinda intrigued by Fortin amps. The Bones to be specific.

That's exactly what it is!. It's a great Marshall spec that Mike did for me but it has a built in electronic variac and
There are 2 i/p's to the amp. One is normal and the other is the same spec but with an added gain stage.
When you plug into the normal channel it only has 2 gain stages. When you crank the Bitch up and lower the volume with the variac, you get the tone that is in the video.
If you plug into the hot side, you get the same spec with an added gain stage and a master volume. It's pretty killer IMHO.
The Fortin Bones amp is KILLER. Mike makes some pretty amazing amps (not saying it because he is a friend, I'm saying that because it's true!!)
All the best!!

I don't mean to derail your thread but would you mind telling me more about the Bones?
What kinda tone can I expect outta the amp? Is it in the Marshall territory?

Now that is some great Marshall tone. I'm very picky and tend to not be all too impressed by how most guys run their Marshalls, but that was seriously some great tone. The quality of the clip helps a lot... well recorded!

No derail at all! I love talking about this crap hahahaha!
The bones is definitely in the Marshall Realm. It's Mike Take on a stripped down version of an amp but the amp has some cool features where you can add / Subtract Gain stages so that you can go from Mild crunch to full up gained out tones. I recorded a quick clip for Mike a while back. I thought the amp was amazing and it has a great feel to it. I thought it had plenty of gain on tap but always wondered what it would be like with just a bit more lol (Mike has since added more gain to the design, so the new version is KILLER!)
This was just a quick clip I did (not my best but it gets the point across!! )

To be honest with you , I'm actually picky to lol.
Some of the Marshall clips I hear are to bright and can be Ice Picky. I know some people like that sound but It's just not my preference.
Thanks for listening!

That's actually the Old version. The new version has more gain! (useable gain)
I actually do remember the setting lol. It's was pretty much noon on everything accept for the gain. The gain was up pretty high but not on 10.
Oh yeah, I used a v30 loaded cab.

V30 cab? Awesome! Both my cabs hav V30's in them.
I've decided to go all out and get a good amp this year and so far, it's between the Bones and the PWE Event Horizon 3.

Nice clip bro, very nice
I have heard some Fortin clips in the past that are kinda 'meeh' sounding (not bad at all, but some are a bit 2 modern for me) -- but i really like that tone, fucking raw/big and in your face. I wonder how the response was on the guitar when played
I can only imagine how loud that amp can get lol... V30's ha? hmmmmm i have a LOVE/HATE with them lol, i really do

Wow, that's awesome.
Basically a stock Plexi putting out that sound.
Does it work the power tubes extra hard though?
I tink I remmeber EVH saying that he had to change them weekly or less with the variac

Wassup!!
That's the thing about Mike. He has many different Mods/Tones under his belt.
I know a lot of his mods are geared towards the modern Crowd but the guy can do anything.
I've been interested in amp Mods for years and being the old Bastard that I am, I've played or owned a lot of Modded Marshalls. The ones that Mike built for me have been the best I've ever played!
That amp can get so loud that it can make you sick....seriously, If you were in the room with that amp dimed, It can make you nauseous lol.
The response on the amp is amazing and very touch sensitive.
I did not use v30's in that clip. I used Greenbacks. I used v30's on the Fortin Bones clip.
I used to have a love hate with v30's to until I found out that there were 3 versions of that freaking speaker! One is celestions regular version, The other is the version made for Marshall (HATE THEM!!) and the other is made for Mesa Boogie.
All 3 versions sound different. The Marshall is the most ice pick in the ear lol
All the best!
