Hello all, I'm new to this forum and would really appreciate some advice.

A few years ago I was given a pair of speakers that a family friend had been using as part of a PA system. I had the idea of using these as a cab for a guitar amp. I wanted to know if this is a worthwhile project? I finally have the time and space to do it now.

As far as I can see all I really need to do is wire a jack socket to the back of the cabinet and connect to the amp head. Is this correct? How would I know which way round the wires go? I'd guess the brown wire is positive? Though as it looks like electrical cable would I be better swapping it for speaker wire or another type?

I was looking at getting a Micro Terror to pair it with so I think 8ohms is fine for that. The cabinets look homemade and are sturdy. A bit of reading online tells me the actual speakers seem like they are pretty decent. The back of them say "Celestion G12-80
impedence 8ohms, Rola celestion ltd, ditton works, foxhall rd, Ipswich".

I've attached some pics below (hopefully) and I was hoping if any experts on here could tell me if this is gonna work or be a waste of my time? Thanks!

However you adapt the wiring, you need to make sure youre getting the polarity correct. Otherwise anytime you use a speaker in conjunction with another, itll be outa phase & youll loose all your depth. Yeah G1280s are a fairly balanced speaker that dont break up a lot under power.
As far as those cabinets, its hard to say... theyre insulated, ported & designed more for full range. They might sound pretty deep & loose from the size, & somewhat dead from the insulation.

Its no big deal really, just make an adapter & try em out! If they sound kinda flat, take the insulation out. If you dont love em, sell em! :thu:

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go then!

I've ordered the parts online so hopefully have them and it all done in a week or so. Will come back and let you know how it sounds.

Thanks for your advice RIFF. After a bit of a pause caused by life getting in the way I got this cabinet sorted and ordered a micro terror head for it. It sounds great to me and I'm really enjoying playing through it all. I only use it for home practise so haven't had to crank it very loud and so far am leaving the insulation in but thanks for the tips if I later decide a bit more punch. Cheers!
