I've been recording all the guitars for my band's upcoming album with my DSL hooked to a hotplate and the HT line out intro a super cheap Behringer Ultra G DI box. I A/B'd it against my HK RedBox MkII and a Jet City Jet Direct and oddly enough, I preferred the Ultra G over the others. Not bad for something that costs like $40. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

The "B" makes some good stuf , some of it even original and damn good . I know crazy right . They take a lot of heat though but if it works for ya , is all that matters .

I've had one for several years (along with two of the silver Behringer DIs). So far I've just used it as a traditional DI for non-guitar purposes but I'm looking forward to trying it out on stage at some point between my amp and cab. IMO the Behringer DIs are super reliable and durable.

I got mine for like 33 shipped off amazon. I dont have it anymore, but it was pretty cool.

So, this'd be a way I could actually record my Plexi silently? Hotplate + this DI?

Same here. I've had one for quite a few years and I don't think I've ever even tried the cab sim once. I basically needed a DI quick, and figured I might as well get the one with a cab sim in case I wanted to try that one day.

That was my thinking also. I have learned to be careful with the cab sim button, for some reason soundmen like to push that thing in when I'm using it as a regular DI.

i'm looking for a *transparent* active DI with a high impedance (1Meg preferred) for recording direct into my scarlett 2i2 (pickups too hot for instrument input). would this get the job done for that application? (impedance is 250+ on this unit)

i tried a passive di with a fairly low input impedance (30kish) & man did it truely scrog up the tone. doesnt help that it was cheap, shack, **bleep**.

edit: i found an old para-acoustic di i forgot i had. it. could. work. 10meg input. drop input gain, bypass eq if necessary, we'll see.

Seriously, would someting like a Hotplate + DI combination really work for silently recording my Plexi? I'm ignern't ~ school me!

Yes sir, set the Hot Plate to load and take the direct out to the emulated DI = great sounding silent recording.

Mine actually has a short in it and I need to slap it a couple of times to make it work (literally) but it does sound great. I need to buy another one soon.

There is a blind test online somewhere, that I took. It had 10 of the same guitar part played, with different cab sim boxes. Palmers, H & K, the Behringer, etc. I picked the Behringer over all of them.

This was AFTER I bought mine years ago.

Kickass! So all I gotta do is figure out what those two pieces of kit would cost & compare that to a modeler setup, I spose...

You know, I got one like 6 months ago and it's still in the box. HAHA guess I gatta use it now.

Yeah, we've got one kicking around our practice studio. It does the job just fine!
