First 2-3 KSE; yes please. Volbeat? No. Don't you like the Mars Volta

Alive or Just Breathing was a pretty kick ass album. Didn't care for much else from them.

i love the mars volta.

what spawned this was KSE coming on the work music computer and me going "omfg what is this garbage"

I can see how KSE would come off as extremely dated sounding in this day and age, however. It doesn't hold up probably as well. I dig Howard Jones vocals and would love to hear him pulled out his element.

KSE is cheesy as fuck but I enjoy listening for the sweet tonez. For the polished, modern, gigantic chug kind of sound, it doesn't get any better. It's actually not what I'd necessarily go for all the time doing modern high gain since sometimes I might like a more raw tone, but for neatly crafted perfectly produced high gain, End Of Heartache is pretty much the standard.

But yeah the music itself isn't far from being the Nickelback of metal.

I've seen VOlta live multiple times but their later stuff is incredibly self indulgent.

I think Omar realized it too, which is why not only his music but his rig is a lot more stripped down than it once was.

I'm really glad I have no idea what this music is.

You know how you hear little snippets of a band and immediately hate them? Even though the tunes you hear probably aren't 100% definitively representative of their entire catalog? That's me with TMV. When I think of them; I think shrieking afro singer who reminds me of a punk/asexual Robert Plant . I can't honestly tell you what songs I have heard by them and I am not even sure when my dislike even started Suggestions for listening?

true. the last one is the only one i didnt dig 100%. only 80%

and i think they both realized it, hence antemasque. but MAN there were some fucking gems in that catalogue...musical moments that still give me chills. actual fucking chills.

welp, thats actually pretty spot on id have to dig for songs that you'd remotely like, probably not worth the trouble. no worries.
the widow is the song that they briefly poked through into the mainstream with for like 2 sec.

What's funny is The Widow was the first song that came up when I searched. I listened to it for a minute and it was actually pretty straightforward and it was pretty decent. I always thought they did the whole drenched in effects, spazzy hipster riffing thing; so the Widow caught me by surprise.

De-loused in the Comatorium and Francis The Mute are their best albums IMO. Francis The Mute for a more structured experience.

Mars Volta n00bs: De-Loused in the Comatorium is a fucking amazing album and the most accessible if you haven't listened to them and want to give it a go.

Frances the Mute and Amputechture have some of the most incredible music moments all over them... drenched in it.... but only for the strong... the weak can't handle it.

I will give Telephant and your recommendations a thought and see if I change my mind. Not sure if this thread panned out as YB planned, but musical education is always a good thing.

I fucking love De-Loused In The Comatorium. The only album I've ever preordered. I haven't given the later stuff a legitimate listen, but I agree with Shea, all the snippets I've heard of later stuff than that was pretty wanky/jammy and boring (well "The Widow" wasn't but I still think it's a boring song and not even close to anything on DLITC).

I used to listen to them a lot, not really anymore. Their riffs are fun/simple to play and they have epic tone


But you comparing them to that awful band volbeat has me concerned you've been hitting the meth pipe hard
