This fucking sucks.

Black Tusk isn't everybody's cup of tea. They aren't the best songwriters or making groundbreaking music. But they're freaking road warriors and have been bringing metal to shitty bars all over the country for years. While Kylesa and Baroness have "gotten big" (as big as southern metal bands are gonna get these days) they've stayed in Savannah bring their "swamp metal" to the masses one crappy venue after another.
I was lucky enough my shitty metal bar had them a couple years back and got to buy Athon some beers before their set. Talked some gear, he was running a Mesa 400 but had an old Acoustic 370 as his backup. He told me some hilarious stories; pre-Black Tusk days of a tour to Mexico and essentially loading the van up with mexican prescription drugs (obviously pre 9/11 lol ), another time driving back to Savannah from a tour ending in seattle. Driving a Ford Ranger who's heat went out in winter through Montana with the guitarist in the bed of the truck burning up with a fever. Just the crazy shit that happens to bands that really do tour all over with little to no support.
They played that night for maybe 30 people and they still brought it treating us as if it were 300 or 3000 in the crowd.
Apparently he's in a medically induced coma now after a car ran a stop sign and hit him and his gf on their motorcycle. She's in the hospital too, but at least is alert and awake.
Mojo and prayers go out to them and their friends and family. This sorta crap sucks.
