Are there any pedals get a good Dubstep sound?

I've been experimenting alot with envelope filters, synthesizers, wahs, tremolos, etc. looking for a way to get that sound live. So far Ive found a couple cool things here and there, but nothing that amounts to what I'm really looking for. If anyone knows of anything about this, I would appreciate the advice.

Good luck making those sounds consistently. All those guys use samples.

You could try running a talkbox through a bitcrusher

The closest Ive come is synth/octave>Wah>Distortion. It sounds pretty close, but its only one sound compared to many in dubstep music. I know that will require alot of pedals/switching, but if I have to buy a few more expression pedals or do a tapdance on my pedal board throughout, then I guess thats ok.

Soundblox pedals.

Instant dubstep, not kidding. Cool deals especially with an octave pedal and the hot hand Bluetooth finger controller

Almost all of the "dubstep" sounds in that video are samples.

well most of dubstep is bass oriented so the soundblox and hot hand with a bass is your best bet. With guitar your best option is an interface that lets you connect to a computer run the program midi guitar and use massive for the bass sounds. Your other option would be either using an mpc or triggering one via another device like a kaos pad or something mounted to your guitar.

Have you looked at the Boss Slicer (SL-20)? It certainly wouldn't be all that you need but it might be a useful part of pedal rig for that style. The momentary switch mode is useful for introducing glitchy type of accents.

You have to scream "OH MY GOD" into the mic to activate them.

Drop tuned guitar with the soundblox should do nicely.

The midi guitar interface thing sounds expensive/complicated, I'm not sure I want to get into that.

What is an mpc?

Thanks for the advice though! :-bd

Just took a look at it, it seems cool, but I can probably get the same or similar sound from a delay/reverb into a rotary via multifx pedal.

I don't hear a lot of dubstep in that...not enough "WARBBLEGARGGLEBOOM" really.

BUT...that was badass :rawk:

Why? Its a fresh new pool of ideas that offers fresh inspiration. And it happens to be a current trend in pop music. The Metal genre has burnt itself out over the past 10 years, nothing about current metal is fresh or new, and quite honestly, I don't see metal working it's way back into the mainstream anytime soon. Dubstep isn't actually that different than metal, it's just presented in a different way, and I prefer something that sparks the creativity over something that is practically making parodies of something thats already said and done.

Whatever floats your boat I guess. I find dubstep to be the worst thing I've ever heard though and I don't know why you would want to make those sounds with your guitar. But hey, if it's what inspires you, go nuts. You don't need my approval :-bd

I would say dubstep is more akin to kiddy metalcore. All those chuggy breakdowns you heard 8 years ago? Turn them into wubs and BAM, you got dubstep.

It might do alright but guitar amps arent built to put out the proper frequencies that a bass would.

If you have a interface for recording you are almost there.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/keyboard ... o-slimline its basically a sampler with triggers. It would be your easiest cheapest way to get it done. With the sound blox you must also take into acount you need to buy the hot hand or whatever accessory as well and it's not cheap.

They actually use polyrhythms at times. SO its more like dancier djent.
