stuff is still amazing today. What a fantastic collection of 12 gracious melodies. Every song is great, tons of great guitar work and great compostion as well. This was Weiland at his best, maybe his most fucked up, but his very best. Absolutely love this album. That is all.

In 1992 STP released Core, which was even better. Absolutely love this album. That is all.

I think Purple is superior to Core but I dig the massive Zep influence on that record.

^That x infinity. Core imo was separated stylistically by the various bands they were ripping off. On Purple, they were just ripping off one band

When Core came out; it sounded like a slightly late to the party mashup of every Seattle band that came before it. Songs were catchy as hell but to say it was derivative is putting it mildly

Eddie Vedder wrote and recorded the demo to Alive in September 1990 and joined Pearljam aka Mookie Blaylock in October 1990. They began recording Ten in March 1991.

Scott Weiland and Robert DeLeo had been performing in bands together since 1986. They recorded 3 songs from Core on the Mighty Joe Young demo. Namely: Wicked Garden, Where the river goes and Naked Sunday were recorded in 1990

Overall composition and sound on Purple was far more superior to Core. Don't get me wrong, Core is good on it's own merit, but it was an obvious first album. They had a bunch of songs on demos and EP's and just mashed them together when they finally got a major label LP. Purple was when they really came into their own and constructed a masterful album, IMO.

They were both good. One day I might like Core better, another day it could be Purple.

I may actually like Core a little more, but BOTH albums are just fucking FANTASTIC

Purple mops the floor with Core. I like Core, but it's Dodge Ram commercial cheese level at the same time. Purple seems like much more honest and unrestrained writing, as does Tiny Music.

^ lol cassette. I haven't even seen one in a decade at least. I Remember going to a record store and browsing the wall of cassettes. I think the way we listen to music is one of those things that if you went into a coma in 1993 and just woke up that would be the most confusing thing to grasp. I would be like "so wait a minute, you don't even buy a tape or a cd anymore?"

Lol no shit, I never really thought about that but you're right. These days I just buy mp3 albums from Amazon for the most part. Every now and then I'll still buy a physical cd if the artist is doing a pre-order deal.

Record shops don't even exist around here anymore, besides like a department in Hastings or something - I reckon it's basically like that everywhere now

I feel sorry for people under the age of 30 right now. They missed out on such great life experiences by having actual record stores to go and browse and meet up in. I met so many chicks just by browsing albums and cd's in those stores, hell I even worked at a record store for 3 years in my youth, although it was in a mall at a chain. Music was such a great way to meet people and start conversations. Music was like the ultimate gateway to expand your personal network of friends. I blame Al Gore.
