It's probably placebo but does the mogami sound less ratty? It's not a trick same cable etc. Playing may differ a little.

That was really surprising as to the differences.. The first one sounded more raw, a little scratchy and grainy, but the second you could hear more of the nuances, harmonics and was overall smoother to me.

I prefered the second part better

Hearing them side by side, I can hear a little bit of the differences you spoke of before...but again, not nearly as drastic as some make it out to be...

I couldn't hear a difference, but I just came home from happy hour and got distracted by something shiny.

It sounds to my ears like the 2nd part -the Peavey cable - has a little more high frequency content, a little more sizzle if you will, than the 1st - the Mogami. Maybe this contributes to the Peavey sounding a little rattier. I doubt however, that in a full mix this would be audible.

It absolutely wouldn't...Which is why I say, unless you're a bedroom only player, then the differences are really a moot point.

I'm willing to bet you were playing in a slightly different position and that made the difference. Toward the bridge or neck half an inch can easily make that amount of difference. The only way you could do a fair comparison is by reamping.

Not a real noticeable on my laptop speakers.

If I consciously block expectation bias, I hear absolutely no difference. Listening through studio monitors at moderately loud volume.
