Mark is the man, and a lefty too, which makes his playing style even crazier...

With a 59 Burst into a brownface Fender Tremolux. He demonstrates it here:

That whole vid is extremely entertaining and I would suggest watching the whole thing. :)

Not only that, his management sued and got half the song writing credit because the "I want my MTV" part was to the melody of "Don't Stand So Close To Me."

Sting is a dick. Fuck Sting. I like The Police and his sound is cool for some songs, but he sucks as a person.

Fuck, Sting.

I thought Sting was supposed to be a cool dude? I don't think there is any bad blood between him and Knopfler, I just saw a vid of them performing together not too long ago.

Seems like I remember reading an interview with Knopfler a few years back where he talked about this. I think he just shrugged it off and didn't hold a grudge.

Sting claimed his record co. and management were the culprits and he had nothing to do with the songwriting credit issue. I always found that hard to believe, as Sting was one of the biggest music stars in the world at the time and you would think if he told his people to back off they would follow his orders. Who knows, maybe not.

I hung with his manager Ed Bicknell for a couple of hours once, (the dude standing at the back with white hair and black shirt) very entertaining guy with loads of anecdotes. He said the first thing that got him interested in dire straits was seeing knopfler playing a red strat, as that was what his (Ed's) hero played, Hank Marvin of the Shadows, obviously Marvin was a big influence on MK too.

I enjoyed this when it came out, it was supposed to be a series but I can't find anything about any other episodes, shame, I'm sure it would have been enjoyable.

Tons of great players are like that, off the top of my head... Gary Moore, BB King, Duane Allman, Steve Morse....I'm sure there are others. Crazy!!

Except all those dudes use picks, no?

Knopfler has this crazy rhythmic rake thing he does with his right hand and fingers that is really cool. Sort of flamenco-ish but not?!?
