Definitely moving back away from the douchegaze stuff from the last record (which I actually kind of liked). This is a bit more like the old stuff. Very nice.

I actually dig it. Certainly not something I would have found on my own, but I'll have to look into these guys for sure.
Reminded me that I should learn some proper chording ...

Start with their first album "Young Mountain". It's typical post-rock, but superb. It's their most accessible work.
Then, get the self-titled album. It's a masterpiece, IMO. It was a huge inspiration for my stuff.

Agreed. Young Mountain is a great entry point - really just for Quiet and the The World is Our ____ alone. S/T takes more listens to get into but it's a phenomenal album that you really need to take in as a whole.
Things got weird after that but as BroSlingers says, it sounds like they're going back to a slightly more straightforward sound with this new stuff, though who knows what the rest of the album will sound like. From all accounts they seem to really hate being labelled "post-rock" so have purposely diverged from that of late.

I hate people who hate being labeled post-rock. I wouldn't mind a sign on my amp that says "post-rock".

Yeah I'm not really sure why one would care too much what your music gets labelled as, but I could see how you could get sick of the endless EITS/Caspian comparisons especially if you feel that what you're doing comes from a very different place. I still feel like post-rock is a much better descriptor for what they do than "doomgaze", but they can call their music whatever they want I guess.

When TWDY started calling themselves doomgaze, people at 'afterthepostrock' were like, "more like douchegaze. What a bunch of pretentious cocks."

Now, I'm really curious... so, I just ordered the CD, "This Will Destroy" You by This Will Destroy You. Decided to go right for the Broslinger inspirational suggesion. It should arrive next week and I'll give it a good listening to on my hour and a half (each way) drive to work. I used to listen to Einstürzende Neubauten... totally different but, I think I can figure out a way to like TWDY.... we shall see...

No worries bro! It's fun taking chances once in a while. It's nothing like taking a chance on an untested amp or guitar... that's real fun!

My copy of "This Will Destroy You" by This Will Destroy You arrived over the past weekend. My g/f and I listened to it while preparing a batch of Moroccan Potato Salad and Tortellini Salad for a 4th of July BBQ.
It was very nice. It was very cool. We liked it!!!
It's going to be in my top 40 rotation. I give it a big psychedelic smiley:

Definitely the best tune on the album! I listened to the CD on my 90 minute, 30 mile drive, home from work to day... it was very therapeutic... I didn't get any road rage!

With that said, my favorite moment on the album is where "three legged workhorse" busts in with the gigantic fuzz wall. OMG. I got to see it in person, and it was LOUD as shit!
After the show, I went up to Chris and Jeremy, because I saw them bangin on their amp. I said I was a technician and I lived nearby. They stopped by my parents' house the next day. brought the trailer and everything. I gave them beers. Then they left. I'm pretty sure I didn't fix the amp.

LO!!! They will never forget that beer! Must have been a cool show. How long did the play for?
