OT: Awwww..Good deed of the day

Lunchtime at work a co worker asked me to check something out downstairs: She shows me a friken huge pelican just sitting there in the carpark. It looked fine but would not fly away when we got close to it.

I was a little worried so I decided to wait a few hours and if it's still there call a rescue place or something. 3 hours later, he hasnt budged so I called the nearest rescue center and they told me to call animal control and they will drop it off there.

Fair play, the woman from animal control turned up 15 mins later...She was pretty hardcore and figured it out quick: It had hooks in both its wings. She had to chase it/wrestle it and she carried it by holding it's back wings while its beak was locked on her arm! If you look at your forearm to fingertip, that is how big its beak was.

She finally got it in the truck with a towel over its head. So it's on it's way to the local rescue center and I imagine it will be fine. Quick injection, remove the hooks, feed it and a few weeks it should be pecking the shit out of nature in no time.

Shower me with praise as I sit on a smug self satisfied cloud only experienced by do gooders.

Pelicans are amazing predators. Thankfully, you aren't a fish.

Good work man! :D

Poor bugger did look pretty miserable. I had to dash back to work once she got him but the building manager told me the animal control woman found the hooks were joined by fishing line...So it must have been in a lot of pain as it was holding the wings together! Once she had it in the van, she clipped the hooks so they came out easy, and got all the line off his wings. :ympeace:

She was ^:)^

I have to call her office and give her some props.

I've seen Pelicans surf. They are amazing riding the up-draft of a breaking wave and then pulling out at the last possible moment.

Maybe now, you won't go to hell.

Good job!!!!

Fucking pelicans are awesome. Nature doesn't seem cool until you have to interact with it. Then once you wipe your ass you realize how awesome things are.

Pfft, big deal. Yesterday alone I rescued a beached Rhinocerous. Pushed the little fella back into the water all by myself I did.

A pelican stole my lunchbox at the beach whenever I was five or so, but the joke was on him because I was a little fat kid and had already consumed the food.

Pelican 0
