Wah Wankers

:o) :o)

Got to play quite a bit this weekend & used the T-total fuck outta my Vox King Wah.

Yeah..cheesey & over done by alot of guys..but I cant help it. I'm old school. I like to use a wah. Not ust for lead stuff, and not all the time :hammet: . When I do use one, I enjoy it. Everything from Jimi & Trower kinda fun, to Jerry Cantrell & Pepper Keenan badassness.

What kinda wahs are you guys using, & how do you use it? Dressing up leads ? For Rythmic stuff?

:ronjeremy:

I've gone through a ridiculous amount of wahs. I am only now truly happy with my wah pedal, and that is my Wilson effects funk factory wah. I may also get a Wilson effects freaker wah!

Perfect for solos (I love the voice of this thing), and great for rhythm stuff. check out my youtube slyelessar for demos. Also look at Burgs profile, he does a load of Wilson effects pedals.

Kevin Wilson makes EPIC Wah pedals. Go check them out! The site has just gone through an overhaul.

EDIT: The Freaker wah is great for those that like to experiment or want something a little different.

I have a bad horsie wah that I bought from Devin. I like it, but I don't use wah very much, so it's not even on my board currently. I eventually would like to pick up a cantrell wah because I'm a total Cantrell fanboi, that wah is supposed to be killer and it's way smaller than that damned bad horsie.

Yeah, with the Cantrell, it's like the sweep is shorter but more vocal. Also being able to adjust the treble side of the pedal is cool. At max treble, it never gets to that harsh, screeching thing. Seems to stay smooth the whole way.

I've got a Budda Bud-wah on my board, which I use very sparingly. Partly because y'all are right ~ a little goes a VERY long way, and partly because I suck at using it, lol! On my home recording project (too pretentious to call it my "album"? ), I use it on one half of one solo in one song, because that spot was perfect for some wah action. May use it again ~ I'm about half way through with the project ~ but it's really on my board as a "just in case" pedal, gnome sane?

The Schweet thing about Wilson effect wahs is that you can control the amount of Q/ sweep. Most are usually buffered for fuzz pedals as well!

I like wah for riffs more so than for solos. The wahed out solo has been done to death, but it still offers some interesting tones in the context of a riff.

Also, wah and funk. Kinda difficult to escape that.

I literally just sold mine. It is a GREAT pedal for the price and especially the size, but alas my heart was already won.

Also it looks really cool! =:)

Guilty as charged. I have had nice wahs (Fulltone, which sounded amazingly funky and clean) as well as my old Vox (standard wah for a reason, also funky as hell). I currently (well, like the last 15 years lol) use a Bad Horsie. Not quite as funky, but I have used the damn thing for so long I made it funky whether it likes it or not :) I also have a Bad Horsire 2 in the For Sale forum :spam: :!! :spam:

I use it all the time on rhythm parts and I do use it a lot on solos. I like hitting it at beginnings and endings of solos and doing slow sweeps with it as opposed to rocking it back and forth like a mokey with foot parkinson's.

saw some awesome wah use the other night. relatively new local band called the pale blue dot (sagan reference for the mtfw)...guy was trilling with it, made it sound like a phaser. was rad.

Im partial to the Vox King Wah. It's an old school vintage wah, that does the vintage thing..but can be bought cheaper than more sought after Vox's. it's more of a subtle type of wah. A great wah for rythmic stuff. Isnt too quacky. Isnt too "spikey". They can be bought for under $150

I used an original Bad Horsie for like the last 10 years or so, and just switched over to this one for a change of pace. Sounds awesome! I enjoy the fact that it has two bright ass blue LED's to let you know when it's active, too.

I'm big in to funk and r&b so I like to use wah quite a bit. And of course it's always fun to shred ballz and wank the fuck out of a wah

Yup. And most people don't understand how completely irritating a Wah can be. By irritating, I mean fun. For me.

for the record, almost all of the wahs on the M5 are useless.

I need to adjust the pot in my wah. I have mine set a bit too high on the forward sweep.

It's funny how some guys will think a wah sounds like shit & dont think to adjust the pot / gear on it to get moar range, or get the sweet spot where they want it.

Ive taken shitty stock Dunflop wahs & made them sound great, just making that adjustment & removing the stoppers on them.

The original Vox wah is still my fave. Short the sweep may be, but such great wah tones can be had.

My other fave is the Zakk Wylde one. It's not a true wah per se, it was a wide sweep that's great for coloring solos.

This is essentially what I came in here to post. Have a Bad Horsie II that just collects dust in my closet, but I still want to buy a Cantrell wah because I am an AiC/Cantrell whore.

I dunt even know how to begin doing that, mang. Would love a little wider sweep on the Bud-Wah, but draelyc =/= tech savvy, savvy? :arr:

It's easy. It's just a matter of unscrewing the gear the pot works off of, then adjusting the teeth on it, to the sweet spot of the pot.

I think there's a site that has pics of how to do it.

Simple. A 2 year old monkey could do it.
