Did anybody else have like a musical blackout at some point?

Okay, so I now that I'm married to a woman, I'm exposed to a lot more of the media. I see these musical moguls, and I hear about these songs that were so huge when I was in college.

I don't recognize any of this shit.

:idk: :idk:

I mean, I've heard of Jay Z and 50 Cent, but I can't recite their melodies.

:idk: :idk:

They sold HOW MANY RECORDS?!?!?

Yeah, I only really know Beyonce because of destiny's child.

I spent like 14 years in isolation listening to forgotten female alt-rock, mope rock, and instrumental rock.

I feel really out of touch sometimes. :( (BTW, I just gave 50 cent a listen. I'm not feelin' it.)

50 cent wouldn't know a melody if it shot him in the ass

Yes, and once awakened from the blackout I found out I really wish no one had made me aware of everything I'd "missed." Pop music is always such a damn drag. Sometimes there's a gem, but you gotta wade through a whole sea of crap to find that one little spec of awesome.

I'm way out of touch and I don't even care. My current favorite album hit the Can in 1977.

One of Bostons' finest, The Real Kids

Holy shit: 8:30-8:50 sounds just like Throwing Muses - Not Too Soon from the Real Ramona.

Like major ripoff. They're from Boston, you say? can't be a coincidence.

The Real Kids pre-dated the muses by ten years. I have no doubt that Tanya and Kristen were out in the audience. If you listen to the whole album, you will hear the very beginnings of the first wave of British punk. Bands like the Clash, Buzzcocks and stiff Little Fingers listened to the Real Kids.

They were part of the first wave of the 1970s'-1990s' Boston scene.

Yeah, I wasn't clear enough. I knew the kids were WAY before the muses. I meant the muses ripped off the real kidz

John Felice was in the original version of the Modern Lovers.

It gets completely overlooked, but Boston was way more influnetial than Seattle.

I didn't even know a Not Too Soon video existed. I was a little afraid to watch. Didn't want to ruin it.

Just get the latest ke$ha album and you're good to go. None of it really matters except the shit that is currently making girls shake their ass.

It's hot because it's pretty much just Tanya walking around with a jealous/sad Kristen Hersch in the shadows.

The drummer fuckin wails. I love the vid actually.

Watch the vid again, kristen is hidden because she is like 8.5 months preggo. The LP obscures the baby. Fred, the bassist is a buddy of mine.

Hell of a player for sure.

Not that I am aware.

He's generally very private. Quit Belly because he didn't want to be part of the early '90s music machine. Prefered to stick around the island and raise his kids.

Nevermind, I was mixing him up with Dean Fisher who was in JH's band, and ended up marrying TD.

It's all a tangled web.
