Recto Fans - (Need Your Ears) Kemper Content

Post by gibson5413 »

Hey all, I have had little to no experience with Rectos in my playing lifetime. I have found a couple of profiles for my Kemper that I have had a good time playing around with. I notice that they all sound different. Not every amp sounds the same and everyone may record/profile them differently.

I recorded three clips of the same tune with a different Recto profile. Is there one you prefer? I like them all for different reasons. Of the three there is one that sticks out to me most but I will reserve my opinion for now. Thoughts?

The tune was simply to show off the profile and its chugging abilities. All the guitars are mine over the backing track. I left the profiles unchanged with just very minor EQ tweaks.

Prefer in oder 2,1,3. 2 sounds the most full and loose, 1 sounds like it's boosted, 3 sounds fizzy.

I have no real life experience with rectos though. Which profile did you use for clip 2?

Clip one is fullest and I like it best. Sounds the most natural as well.

I liked 2. I think it represents the recto voicing pretty well.

Clip 2, for me. It's like this is profiling the "complete package", including the mesa standard 4x12" cab, with that typical V30 voice. The others, not so much, IMO.

2. It meshes better with the bass and drums.

I definitely think 1 sounds the most Recto-like of the 3 and also the best.
3 is too fizzy and 2 sounds good but sounds the least like what I expect a Rec to sound like of the 3.

Best part about one is the lead and rhythm both sound really good on that track, if it were me it'd be 1 no question.

Didn't like any that much, but thought #1 maybe had a litttle more teeth to it.

1 sounded like the best complete mix. 2 probably had the best rhythm tone but the harmony line had a weird compression to it that I couldn't get on with that killed too much of the pick attack, then again I suppose it is a recto... 3 seemed a little too scooped. All three would be totally usable from a recording perspective with the right mixing and eq tweaking. All of them would certainly sound shit loads better at their thing if some mid notches to reign in a bit of the honk were applied and the bit or top/air was added.

1 sounds like a Recto, but I try to get mine not to sound like that. That top end is what I don't like, and it's easy for them to sound that way.

Thanks fellas! I believe the #3 profile is a mini Recto. Here is what I used:

#1- The Amp Factory Dual Recto (from the metal pack)

#2- Sasha's Dual Recto

#3- Soundside (Armin) Recto

There are a handful profiles here to play with. I really didn't tweak other than some EQ'ing but I am learning how to play with the Recto since I never played one for an extended amount of time. I played a Road King years ago but didn't know what to do with all of the options. Either way, fun amp profile to play around with.

Clip 2 sounds like my old Recto through v30s. Loved it.
Clip 1 sounds like my old Recto boosted through v30s. Loved it too.

Clip 3 sounds weird. DNW.

I liked 2 a LOT. 3 has this really cool hollowness to it that I dig. 1 sounded great, too. Overall, I liked 2 the best.
