This thread makes me feel guilty. My Rampage and Promod haven't been played in weeks because of broken strings and I've lazily just ignored them.

I'm terrible about changing strings when they need it or restringing if I break a string too. I just move to a different guitar and put off doing the basics. *sigh*

I only have one guitar, but thanks to graphite saddles and a really well-cut nut, I don't think I've broken a string in 8 or 10 years. Because of this, I will get lazy and play a set of strings until they are unconscionably dead. Example: this most recent set of strings I just changed were six months and probably ten shows old.

I don't know how people can play on strings that old. I leave them on for 3 weeks tops.

Oh yeah, I'm cheap too.

So, I'm lazy AND cheap.

Yeah, I aim for about 2 weeks or so, at least on my no 1, although sometimes it drags out a bit longer. Just restrung my main a couple of days ago though, somewhat forced by the fact that the plain strings had somehow developed several kinks. The non-main guitars might drag out a bit longer, and the acoustics and whatnot go way longer. Largely just because I don't play 'em anywhere near as much.

This. I play on strings until they smell like rusty cheese and can't stay in tune.

Yup. As soon as they start to fade, I change them.

Man, when I take my strings off they don't look nearly as fresh and shiny as that

I have to be going on a year with the Elixir Anti-Rust plain steels on 2 of my guitars. Not big on their coated wound strings but their plain steels really do stay shiny and smooth forever :o

I'm super anal about washing my hands before I play, and my hands don't sweat very much. :-??

Every time I change strings I'm like 'This time it'll be different... I'll do it properly and replace them when they need to be replaced. In fact, tomorrow I'll re-string another guitar'.

Brain to arse communication failure.

Hey guys...you know what makes string changes really easy and is awesome for lazy fuckers like me....planetwaves autotrim tuners lol. Also, I only have 1 guitar. Its never broken a string, but when it needs a change, I have no choice but to change them. So I made changing them as easy as possible lol.

I once bought a Floyd equipped guitar and the seller detuned it to save the neck during shipping. I returned it because I didn't have the time to deal with that shit.
