Got Laney fever. Thinkin about selling my Randall RG100ES

Ive got teh Laney fever again. Im tempted to sell my 85/86 Randall RG100ES to fund it.
I want a gh100L or maybe even a 50 watter.
Should I sell my Randall & get the Laney? I see both amps selling used in the 300-400 range.

The GH50L is a sweet amp. Never played the 100 watt version. I wouldn't think that you'd regret it, and even if you did, I'm sure you could manage swapping back without much difficulty.
The GH50L has a really tight bottom end, brah.

Laneys are great amps. GH and VH. In my experience, they sound better in A440 as opposed to lower tunings. YMMV but my VH sounds a little "unfocused" in C# standard.

There's a GH100S or GH50S (cant remember) that sat along time @ one of our local shops. Im gonna go there on lunch break today & see if it's still there & see about doing some trading + cash. Ive bought lots of stuff there & they're always good to me. If it's still there, I'll see whats up.
I think I remember Billy saying the S's are some sort of oddball amps / raritys.
If I remember right, its dusty & a little cosmetically rough & missing the logo.
Hope it's still there & they'll do some swapping w me

The GH100S is kinda common, it's just the Iommi first sig amp, without the signature. Now the GH50S, I've heard it exists but never even saw a picture of one.
But anyway, yeah man the GH series is incredible, one of the best sounding amps I've played.

so it's a 100S? That's cool. I was excited about the possibility of seeing a 50S in person though.
But anyway, it's a great amp dude. Go for it!

yeah I think their US distributor can help you with that, they sent me some parts in the past for very cheap or even free

Cant wait. I'm hoping the deal will go thru.
But
In a year or 2 I'll be missing the Randall lol. I looked for a long time for an early model. Liked to have never found it.
Ive missed my 86 AOR Pro Tube Lead since the day I sold it. Ive had Laney gas ever since. Have always loved the Laney toans Ive heard from 90's & current models. I dig Iommi's newer stuff, so hopefully the GH100S is the ticket

Don't do it! Those old Randall's (as cheap as they are) are THE nola sound. Badass amps!
Just save for a shitty Laney if you need one. You know you'll just end up selling the thing eventually. They're amps that wish they were Marshall's, but they aren't... of course.
Once the honeymoon phase wears out you'll be thinking "why the hell did i get rid of that Randall?" cause Finding an older rg100es in good shape is not as easy to find these days. Ya know you got a good year on one of those... "84 to 86 are the best years for those Randall's. The later 80's ones just don't quite have the mojo.

Laneys are cheap(er) as of late, but they are not what I would call shitty.

GH100s, doesn't use EL84s or 6L6s too? My brain is foggy today.
If it sounds half as good as my VH100/TT50 and GH100/50Ls, you'll love it!
Cavitation right about the frequency. Neither my VH or TT handle 7 or 8 strings as well as my Mesa, XXX or my El Diablos.

I like them for low tuning although some people would like it to be a bit tighter. A pretty simple mod to try would be to swap the 2nd and possibly 3rd coupling caps to a lower value to restrict bass in the preamp. Say between 1-10n to taste.

If you are playing doom riffs or something a little less spazzy in nature, they sound Godlike imo. It was more when I try playing something thrashy or remotely technical. Not as articulate as other high gainers at that point. I have zero modding skills (and they look like they would be uber complex to work on). I am going to give it a run through for the forst time at practice today and see how it sits in the band mix.
