Rather crappy NGD...

Last week I find a great looking Hamer guitar on The Gear Page. So I send the guy some money, and he sends me this (his pic):

It finally arrives today and it is very nice, except for... hmm, what's up with the neck joint?

Looks like the neck has been removed, sanded and reset... this wasn't mentioned in any of the posts or any of our correspondence or shown in any of the pictures. Needless to say, I'm not happy and have already emailed the seller asking for a refund. God forbid I have to take this up with Paypal, that will be such a pain.

So, I bought a beautiful guitar that has issues/damage/repairs that were never mentioned during the buying process. Hooray for me. :-bd

Well, the guitar looks secksy.

Sorry to hear about the seller's disclosure issues. I'm sort of baffled as to how he thought that was going to go unnoticed after you got it.

Oh damn, dude :(

I hope he doesn't hassle you over the refund. That's ridiculous.

Dude, that SUCKS! I saw the first pic and was like "Awesome, another Hamer Mirage user!" ... though yours is a II and mine's a I. But I'd definitely want to know the story with that neck joint... Geez, Louise, like nobody was gonna notice that!

Yeah, she's a beaut, but if he had mentioned this issue, I would not have bought it.

I mean that sucks but is it still good?
I've played plenty of guitars with repairs like that were done well.
Maybe take it to a luthier to give it a going over and ask for a partial refund?

I definitely thought about that, but I paid market price for an excellent condition Hamer USA guitar and that is not what I received. It kind of spoiled the entire thing for me.

What sort of refund would you be comfortable with?

A full one. At this point, I'll cover shipping back just to make it easy.

It almost just looks like some massive lacquer checking. Was it cold when it shipped, and you pulled it out of the case in a warm room?

I'm not trying to accuse you, but are you sure it wasn't jarred in shipping, and the lacquer got effed?

I've never seen a neck repair look like that. If they sand and reset a neck, I would assume they would tint the area. Or, the wood wouldn't look that milky, unless that's actually glue.

I'm just saying, the shipping co could be at fault, unless the dude did a halfass packing job.

that's pretty weak, but does it at least sound/play well?

wtf is wrong with people , I'd start the dispute within 24 hrs . He has one chance to explain that douche move followed by an apology ,refund and call tag . Did you post a wtf in the original thread ?

No, it was packed very well. There's no lacquer flakes or residue in the case and the joint is completely smooth, like it had lacquer reapplied.

I just found the seller's NGD post for this guitar back in '09 on HCEG. There's one pic of the fretboard where you can see the same lightness around the joint. So apparently this happened previous to him owning the guitar.

interesting.

yeah, just ask for a refund. It seems shitty at first, but you'll regret it if you don't. Especially if he tried to pull one over on you.

Unless it sounds and plays incredibly.

I emailed him and let him know my issues with the guitar and that I'd like a refund. I'll give him the chance to do the right thing. I really don't want to get into some kind of pissing match on the forums.

If I don't hear from him by tomorrow night, I'll probably start a dispute with Paypal. Hopefully that can be avoided.

It is a cool guitar, I'm just sad it was misrepresented when it was sold to me. Had I known, I would not have purchased it.

Sorry dude. A lot of sellers do this. I've only bought about 4-5 things on Ebay and two arrived broken despite being described as working fine.

If you like the guitar at all as is I'd say just make up a number and see if he goes for it. Sometimes they don't want broken stuff back. I get the feeling that some of these sellers aren't malicious, they're just middlemen working with large volumes of junk, and can't afford to get too hung up on any one item.

He misrepresented the guitar , the leverage of you putting it up on that thread would be in your favor IMO. Did you ask the usual questions like for ex Does it have any issues ?

I am going to say that it sucks he misrepresented the guitar, but who really gives a crap? Odds are, the joint was overglued from the factory and it just looks ugly under the clear coat. I do not see any separation at the joint at all in that close up picture.

But good luck with whatever goes down. If I was selling it, I would have forewarned the buyer that it looks bad, but it hasn't been messed with to my knowledge.

I hope you get it sorted out, but to be quite frank, I personally would've asked more pics prior to purchasing. Whenever I'm buying something, I make it a point for the seller to send me pics of the heel joint and the headstock, as those are prone to cracks if you don't look closely.

Mojo sent and I hope you get this resolved.

Mojo sent.

Another reason TGP sucks...

Someone probably told him that was Dumble glue and it would give the guitar better toanz.

In hindsight, I should have asked more questions and for more pictures, but his descriptions were very good (original post has been edited on TGP, so I cannot copy it here), and he had linked 20 pictures. He's also selling a lot of very nice gear, so I felt very good about this purchase. Lesson learned.

Sorry man, that blows.

Were you the guy that started a thread about a bad deal on TGP and all those pussies told you to delete the thread? I hate that place so much. The whole mod/admin team are a bunch of cunts.
