Anybody here play ukulele?

For some reason I have GAS for a ukulele. Never played one before but heard some tunes that caught my attention the other day. It just seems like it might be a fun instrument to play.

Anybody play one of these? Is there much you can do with them?

I have one, and play it about once a year. It's pretty easy, but kind of limited. I like playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps on it, both because it sounds good and for the irony factor. Mine is concert sized, but I wish it were a tenor, which has a longer fretboard and feels a bit more guitar-like.

FWIW, a baritone uke is usually tuned to d-g-b-e, which should look kind of familiar and make learning new chords unnecessary, while the smaller ones are typically in g-c-e-a.

I have a Washburn with a Koa top. It's fun to play outside, drunk on the deck on a summer night. Great for picking up the ladies. [-x Thankfully, I'm married.

Seriously, they're fun.

Actually, the chord shapes are the same as guitar in either tuning. With the smaller ones' tuning (typically referred to as "C" tuning) the shapes are like the top 4 strings on a guitar, just as are the baritone tuning chord shapes. The only difference is that in C tuning you'll be in a different key.

I have a cheapie, but rarely play it. Sometimes will take on vacay, to beach, etc.

My son does. For some reason he has an aversion to playing guitar (wants to be different) even though he would be very good at it. He bought himself a uke and figured it out quickly. After a day he could play some basic songs, and has moved on to some more difficult tunes.

Damn kids make it look easy.

Thanks for the replies. I have a feeling that I'd lose interest in this pretty quickly.
My GAS pains are subsiding.
