Ok, so I'm new at this.....just started recording anything besides YT clips in the last few months. I tried Reaper, I tried Audacity, I tried a few others that were more expensive and hated them all.
For a guy that does this as fun or a hobby, those programs are a mind fuck of epic proportions...the levels, the monitoring, compatibility between impulses/programs etc...it got to be a huge headache. I'm a busy guy; I'm married and have a wife and busy 14 year old daughter, I work out 4-6 days a week, I do aikido, and my wife and I each own our own businesses, so what time I do have to play/record has to be maximized.
Enter this chain....I seriously recorded a guitar track, doubled it, threw a lead on it and added some chorus and reverb and exported it to Soundcloud inside of 5 minutes, the first time I used it.
There's no messing with input levels, the Jam does that. There's no messing with different track levels, GB does that.
I know GB is considered a noob DAW but fuck it, that's what I am. I'm pretty happy with it....I found an app that does drum loops, and Derek Buddemeyer sells 600 loops at a time for this app for like $10...gonna snag that on Thursday and see what's up with it. I'm pretty stoked...I'd throw up a clip but I suck and you guys would kick me off this forum lol.
Just wanted to throw it out there for guys that are using the Positive Grid stuff and want to try recording. This is seriously the easiest thing I've ever tried as far as DAWs go, and Audiobus is most definitely worth the $5.
Sorry for the dumb question, but what is Audiobus?
Got JamUp Pro and Bias on Christmas. Of course they're on my wife's iPad, and I can't get it away from her Really fun stuff for the few minutes I got to try them.
Not a dumb question, man.....Audiobus is an app that lets you use JamUp into GarageBand, or any of most of the other music apps (drums, bass, keys) into GB too. Basically acts like virtual 'cables' to let you use music apps together and record into GB. It's an awesome app, and it's $5. If you're into recording at all, or you want to TRY it in GB, do yourself a favor and grab it. It takes so much of the guesswork out of it...handles the levels, everything. Really an incredible help.
idk man. I'd gotta say that I think you'd get a better tone out of a decent interface, Reaper (with no editing or anything), and an SM57. But that's just me.

Fair enough, and I agree. But that's not the point....the tone is something that can be changed....I can and will do another track with another amp in the chain and change nothing but that, and then post it here after this.
The point is that I don't have an amp, I don't have the time to learn Reaper (40 pg manual, seriously?!) and this is the only thing I'm working with and it took 5 minutes to do, cut, splice drums, and upload. I did another last night with some keys and a different amp and it sounded a lot less compressed.
I just wanted to throw it up here for guys that might be interested in this stuff, as it's really easy to use. I could see getting into ProTools later on if I wanted to get into deeper editing, but this is fun as hell for a beginner, you know?
Thanks for taking the time to listen and throw me some input though man. Appreciated!
All I changed was the map model, used one of the amps that pamukparty did for this app, and here ya go. 10 minutes later, including going out to smoke a cig, talking to my woman, and then firing up everything and publishing on SC...any better or still not good?

Ooooh. Yeah, sorry man. You're right. Under those circumstances this really does work out nice.

I think if you reduced the gain and bass a pinch it would come through more clearly. Maybe up the mids a little bit too. Still cool that you can do this
No need to be sorry man...I'm a hack and just wanted some input. Thanks for yours! I'll try what you suggested; I didn't even change anything on the amp, just grabbed it and threw it in the same chain and then hit record. One more clips coming up.
Nice! You are up and running and already ripping out clips.
You can do some cool sounding stuff fast using thus setup. Which drums are you using - I use JamUp/BIAS for practice and quick clips but I would like to start using it for writing.

These were all done with Drum Loops HD light; that's the rock sample track cut in a couple places you can probably hear. Check it out; there are over a thousand loops in that app. I'm going to buy the full one tomorrow just because I've had so much fun with this one.
I think I'm done. Maybe a small power amp and cab, but no more amps. It makes no sense to me to pay thousands of dollars anymore when I can build any amp I want in this app.

Cool - I am going to check out Drum Loops HD tonight. Are you using AudioBus to send the Drum Audio into GarageBand?

Yessir....be aware that only the 'Ballads' sample tracks work for recording, and they're only two bars so you'll have to cut/loop them...the rest are just samples that you can hear, but there's no sound file. I hipped a couple people to that app yesterday and then got my inbox flooded with "HELP HELP I CAN'T HEAR THE DRUMS WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HELP HELP".
I am currently still developing "Drum Session" for iPad with the guys who make the iFretless apps. No ETA yet but things are shaping up to be pretty cool. Here's a clip (everything was done on an iPad here) http://derekbuddemeyer.bandcamp.com/track/the-lost
