So I've come to the Conclusion that an extended scale guitar is the way to go for me. I'm currently using a 25.5" scale with a .060 on the low string, tuned to C standard and it's just not cutting it. I dig in really hard when I play, and I drop down to Bb for a couple tunes and it's just too floppy for me. I've been getting individual strings from JustStrings and experimenting, ,but unfortunately, after the .060, it jumps to .068 which is going to be tough.

Ive been looking into it, and the only real contender is Agile. Mainly because of the price point and my previous experience with Rondo. I've also seen some LTD's and I've also considered the Ibanez RGD series. The thing that sucks about the LTD baritones is that they are relatively hard to come by. Every now and again they pop up, but not often. The only thing about the RGD that I'm not a huge fan of is the body style.

So basically my plan is to get an inexpensive 27" and then upgrade down the line if I feel like its right for me.

So any other brands I should look at? It doesn't seem like a whole lot of people make 27". There is the Fender tele one also, but I haven't really heard anything about it. Thanks guys!

The Ibby RGD is cool, but the stock pickups suck (as usual from Ibanez). I played the Fender blacktop baritone tele for a few minutes once. Seemed ok, but I wasn't really impressed by it. I'm guessing better pickups and a setup would make it much better. Not the same thing, but I have a couple of 7 strings that I'm looking to get rid of.

I have an Ibanez RGD320 that I like a lot. The stock pickups were some of the worst I've ever heard but I switched to EMTY/AHB-1 Blackouts and the guitar sounds awesome now.

Owned an Agile 8-string in the past and quality-wise it was good, reminded me of the Schecters from around that pricepoint, but I didn't care for the overall feel of the neck and weight of the guitar. Eventually I decided that i'm a 6-string only guy so i sold my 7 and 8 and got the RGD.

Pretty sure Schecter makes several extended scale guitars so it may be worth checking those out if you dig their necks.

You had positive experience with Rondo in the past right? Why not go back?

I have a 7 string from their first run, the violin burst ended up being violet flame (which I think is better looking NOW), DiMarzio Blaze pickups, 27" scale and ebony fretboard. For the price then ($400-500 iirc) it was a GREAT deal.

The neck is a little table leg like, but far from unplayably wide.

Thanks! They actually have some sizes that Are right in the territory I was looking for!

Yeah, I'm thinking that's where I'll end up. I just wanted to see if there were any other "under the radar" type guitars I may have overlooked.

I played over my 7s last night, just to make sure I wasn't wrong when I said far unplayably wide, and my Agile feels a shade thicker than my ESP 7 & my Schecter 8. Okay, Ibby necks are impossible THIN so it isn't a fair comparision.

I don't think I'll be w/o my Agile. IDK if I'd go the custom route through them though as their prices are what you'd get a Carvin for almost!

They do have an 8 for $400 now... it is calling to me too!
