What in the ass
I thought you were all about the new modern, didn’t know you had old hotness too, that’s badass!
Dude shipped that out yesterday, can’t wait to try it, should be here Wed-Thurs. I’ll report back.
Yeah that brush haunts me man, it’s just tiny and cool looking as fuck; I don’t need anything so I can’t order from IB yet. I’ll grab it sooner or later tho.
I’m covered for bladepocalypse, thanks to you and the Derby sleeve lol
I really dig all the stuff I have but it’s starting to pile up; I think I’m gonna separate some stuff out for spring/summer and put the heavier scents in the drawer for fall and winter. I have enough of both that I don’t need to worry.

Oh I believe you; I just did the math and I have enough blades for almost two straight years of everyday shaves. I know you’ve got more than that.

Re: Gillette
Gillette has been infiltrating India for about 8 years...
They started selling single blade disposable cartridges called the Gillette Guard - their plan is to ween the Indians off DE's and get them on cartridges.
The Indians wouldn't go for multiblade cartridges because, they were too expensive.
By starting off with single blade cartridges, Gillette believes selling 2, 3 and 4 blades cartridges will be easier, down the road.
I bought a Guard handle and some cartidges a few years ago, from West Coast Shave. It's really cheap and is almost as good as a Track II.
Haven't heard anything about Russia's blade factories. If India stops making DE blades, it will give the Russian factories more business.,, maybe?

Actually, I think it's happening moreso in Russia. The Indian Gillette factory is pumping out huge numbers of new DE blades for CHEAP.
Russia stops blacks = India making blacks now, cheap.
Russia still making greens (for now) = India also making greens, for super cheap.
I think the DE phase out plan is stronger in Russia. We'll see.

BTW, Stein, I have like 40 vintage razors that get scant use.
I can't get as good of a shave with a vintage Gillette as a modern boutique razor.
That said, The type L Schick injectors rock, as does the Krona.

I agree Gene.... my SLOC is superior to any of my vintage razors. I have to say that, my Gillette Slim, set on 4 or 5, is nearly as good.
Of my moderns, the Tradere, Future clone, Ocams and my new Viking Blades with Barn Doors, really are killer but, the SLOC stands out as the one razor to rule them all.

Dude, I'm with ya, and I am the TFS guy. I ended up putting a bunch of it into long term storage. It can't compete with some other stuff for my limited drawer space at home.
The TFS I kept in the drawer =
Uncle Walt
Stupefacente
DiVino
Sottozero Forte
Anniversary Fern
Stuff I find myself liking more(better performance):
Soap Commander - This is a triple threat. price, scent, performance. Just incredible.
Grooming Dept - big wow factor, but expensive. and some weird scents.
Wholly Kaw - expensive, but incredible performance.
Declaration Grooming - a few weird scents, but this was one of my game changers.
Shannon's -This is back in the game for me. Whenever I had a bad shave with it, something else was at play
Ariana & Evans - also back in the game. Fantastic performance.
Barrister & Mann - some iffy scents for sure, but some legendary scents too.
Australian Private Reserve - expensive, but great
Lather Bros
Stubble Buster - cheap, and great
FWIW, I'm kind of over quite a bit of stuff at the moment.
Fine soaps.
most hard soaps in general, french, italian, German, etc.
Italian Soft soaps, for the most part
etc. Kind of sad.

You have some nice stuff coming. Sorry, no soap commander though.
That said, Go to their website. They are always selling Limited edition soaps for like $10.

Thanks Gene, for the incoming care package - YOU ROCK!!!!

I'm going to have to plan a surprise for you...

Looks like the closest thing Soap Commander has to bay rum soap is , Passion.
Thanksgiving sounds a bit off but, I may give that a try too.
I'm out of bay rum soap... last batch was from Mike's... really good stuff.
EDIT: Just ordered a tub of Passion!

Can't believe SC, with the nautical motif, doesn't have a bay rum soap!

I’m gonna keep UW and Stupa and chuck the rest in storage for fall, they’re heavier scents anyway.
What I like better so far:
Soap Commander
BM
Mickey Lee
Murphy&McNeil

Re: Gillette
SOTD perfection.

Razor: Blackland Brass Blackbird safety bar head + Iron Oxide Steel Handle. A ha! It was the long handle I didn't like. The safety bar isn't quite as glidey as the open comb, but it seems to shave closely to the perfect degree.
Blade: Gillette Blue Platinum. Nuf said.
Brush: The 24 Barrel of perfection.
Soap: Barrister & Mann Lavanille - LOOK at that rich brown tub of doodoo. Smells so perfect. Goes on like rootbeer float colored yogurt. Shaves perfectly. actually leaves residual scent fairly strongly. a manly vanilla, leather, shoe polish, sugary scent. outstanding stuff. Maybe my overall favorite B&M.
Aftershave: Barrister & Mann Vespers. Limited Edition winter scent from 2018. Beautiful. This is the new aftershave base too.
10/10. perfection.

Thanks! I think a lot of it comes down to using the perfect blade.
I can eek out a 8.5-9/10 with a shit blade, but i have to use the perfect razor and soap.
I'm starting to think it's not worth it. This is why I'm accumulating good blades. FWIW, I can't get a 10/10 with any stainless blade, even if it's a Gillette from PPI (Nacet, Silver Blue, Perma Sharp, Green 7 o'clock).
I have to use Platinum. period.
Gillette Swede
Gillette Russian Platinum
Gillette Russian Blue Platinum
Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow
Gillette 7 o'clock blue/black Russian super platinum.
Gillette Minora Platinum

Was gonna skip and then remembered it's not April anymore, it's SLOC day! So I grabbed some new stuff Gene PIFd me, and started to go at it. Started with this:

Built a bit of lather on the soap, then hit my face....5 seconds in and it's fucking battery acid. NOPENOPENOPEGETITOFFGETITOFFNOW
Holy fuck, I've never had a reaction like that to anything. That goes to a buddy. OW
Ended up with this:

Little vial is a test product from Captain's Choice, he wanted some volunteers to try out their take on Floid Blue.....man that shit HURT where the first soap touched it. God DAMN.
Finished up one pass and I was done. Fuck it, should have waited lol
4/10, saved by SLOC goodness and Stupa
Also this showed today.....won a PIF on B&B and it included a 1966 EverSharp Krona....wasn't in the mood to try it out today, but will tomorrow. Man Arko is a weird scent...

Re: Gillette
According to Amazon, my 600 7 O’Clock Yellows are arriving earlier next week than I expected. I’ll pick them up when I get back to the office from Cedar Rapids.
It occurs to me that I only shave twice a week. Assuming I get two to three shaves out of each blade, and there are about 52 weeks in a year, that would require 26 blades a year. 600/26 is about 23 years. I just bought enough blades, in addition to the 100 I purchased a few weeks ago, to last me into my late 50s. I’m planning on getting 1000 more, which will last me into my eighties.

It's actually a battery acid pre shave. Of course, they made the container look almost identical to the soap container.
SOTD:

kind of hungover from the Buckethead show last night. Figured I would use a mild razor, since I wasn't really feelin' so hot at 7am. mistake.
Mamba 70 - freakin nicked myself with an unnickable razor because it's not aggressive enough. Have to go over the same spot too many times to get the hair off.
Shart Platnium. Piece of shit. I should have just used a Blackbird with a Platinum Gillette.
Soap Commander Serenity. Amazing. Too bad this razor and blade didn't do it any favors.
Aftershave - too hungover to use alcohol aftershave. Used my shannon's Lit. It was quite nice. Scent lasted longer than usual. Menthol was nice with booze sweats.
7/10. Better than nothing. not horrendous.
