Just trade out your cross trainers, lee relaxed fits and baggy t shirt for a pair of Chucks, and jeans/shirt that fits.

Combat boots, Levi boot cuts, shirts that show I have a shape besides possibly egg. :thu:

Though, I do need to get a pair of chucks again. Its been far far too long since I owned some.

I have been playing live on & off for over 30 years .... I have never been in a band that had stage rules.

I always just wore what was appropriate for the environment & establishment. Usually I just wore whatever I was wearing that day except for when doing casino gigs - and even then it was usually whatever I wore that day.

I have played a pretty wide variety of music styles & have done gigs from dives to arenas & have opened for many national acts.

Yes, chucks must be added back into the stable!

You too Dave! Those same things apply to you! :thu:

Then surely you realize we are collectively amateurs at best and this was not even close to a serious thread. Right???!

Yes .... some of the post are very entertaining. I was just posting my experience. I have been a painter most of my life ..... I would not show up at gigs wearing my work stuff covered in paint usually ....

Ive broke many of those "cosmetic" rules. As long as the band shows up and plays sober and well then I could care less what they wear ( unless someone goes all liberace or something)! Next most important is that the band not argue or say anything stupid. There are mics on and you can save the complaints for after the gig. My own personal rule is not to spit on the next a-hole that calls me dimebag if I use my ML as a spare!

And all I can play in is Chucks...and I have some badass ones at that :D Special Edition Joker Chucks!!

Speaking of these rules though, has anyone seen what my stage attire is? Fucking cowboy hat, old school glasses (that are entirely real, I cant see for shit), Denim overalls, some metal/tv/other dumbshit black third, and my Joker Chucks....basically, I break a lot of rules with just my stage attire.

But I don't care.
And i drink, a lot lol.
But that is what my band is known for. We drink ALOT of shots, but the crowd is constantly buying em, and getting hammered at the same time, so I guess it's alright...right?

He's welding.
He's riding a motorcycle or ATV.
He's driving a convertible.
or.... he's fixin' to suck somebody's dick.

Dot get hammered before hand.

Dont talk to the crowd like a titty bar DJ.

Dont attempt to play "works in progress" / shit that isnt 100% ironed down.

Look for cues from others.

Dont try to throw in drum fills your not sure of.

NEVER let a bass player or drummer run sound.

Dont touch my shit.

Dont bring anything you're not gonna use.

Dont wear your own band's shirt.

No solo "singer with an accoustic" coffe shop song bullshit.

Have fun.

Dont talk like you're bigger than you are. "This is our hit song off our last album"

My rules anyway. Not playing with anyone at the moment. Some day maybe I'll find some folks to do something with.

dont know how i missed these earlier, but spot fucking on, all of them

and to paul, et al: heres what needs to be understood about this thread
1. until now, these rules are unspoken. its not like (again, until now) we right them down and live by them. its just shit we see other people do that make them look unprofessional, amateurish, etc.
2. any band that looks like they dont give a crap about any of this that you see? they have probably thought at least once about it and dressed/acted accordingly. at the very least, if they havent, its just natural and if one of the band members walked out in one of these rock and roll wardrobe faux pas, they would immediately notice. that is if they arent in korn or metallica.
3. its tongue in cheek, mostly. yall do what you do. whether i cringe and snicker with my friends at the shows or not is between me. you would probably point out 100 really dumb looking-to-you things that i would pull live. chime in! just dont say that there are no rules, and that anyone who makes them are uptight twats. just being honest.

the titty bar dj voice  instantly let me know how pandering and soulless of a cover band you are.

One rule that has been left out.
Always appear as if you are having fun/enjoying yourselves. To me that's the key to any performance. :rawk:

I disagree. I can look at you up there and tell exactly what your band is going to sound like before you even play a note (i.e. outlaw country with noticeable hard rock influences and a sense of humor). That is the very definition of appropriate stage attire. :thu:

I might try to hook this up because I'm still in Austin.

Washed my car today and steamed the seats. Feelsgoodman.

Had to goto a car wash down the street because apparently you're not allowed to do it in the driveway to a water crisis.

Got a nasty sunburn on Saturday at LBJ lake.

Nailed it.

My band is playing at Shenanigans in N. Austin on Friday. Come on by if you're still in town...

Why are there any fucking rules?

My rule: fuck you

This thread makes me want to buy a white t-shirt 3 sizes too big, camo shorts, a dimebag keytar and be a hybrid David Allen Coe + pantera collaboration tribute band.

You have to wear flip flops and take off your t-shirt after the second song.

Somewhere in the show I will don a bowling shirt and break out some Larry Carlton licks.

First, you need to smoke a rock of crack or do a couple lines ala charlie sheen.

You can't rock the bowling shirt until you man up.

*Powdered sugar is a cheaper substitute which is suitible for this situation*

I'm usually against shorts, but a few weeks ago we went out for a weekend of shows at it was a solid 95 degrees. Normally, I'd still wear jeans, but our fucking Suburban has no AC. I still had them with me. We get to the "venue" the show is at...no fucking AC there either. 100+ with hi humidity? Yea right, fashion went out the window.

I was a douche that day for sure  My nutty bass player was wearing black pants and a jacket :freak:

Were they athletic shorts? Cause, that would be awesome.
