Every review I'm seeing makes this sound good.

Plus, I just found out today that GDT is doing "the summer blockbuster" routine because Hollywood has shat on his version of Mountains of Madness so many times he wants to bankroll it himself off his earnings here.

the cast has me more excited about PR. charlie! sons of anarchy! dude from office/prometheus!

the hope is rising. i just hope the backstory is more than a 20 second montage though. backstory, backstory backstory!!!!!! pleeeease!!!!!!

in a synopsis i read, the monsters have plagued the world for 7 years, and so the jeager program is <7 yo. yet one of the characters is a retired jeager pilot. short career?

He lost his partner in a really terrible battle/acident. They are mind-linked during the battles due to the suit setup. THat caused him to give up and go work on the wall. The wall is useless.

I hope half the backstory I've heard about through the artbooks and special featurettes ends up in the movie. If so, :thu: .

Damn I've never seen this directors cut. This all sounds badass.

oh it is, it very much is. some of it is the most poignant or action packed material in the movie. no idea why it was cut.

It certainly is. The machine guns in the tunnel annihilating everything in sight is well worth the watch alone.

+1

Back to the topic on hand:

The guy behind Pan's Labyrinth would be awesome with Mountains of Madness.
The guy behind both Hellboy movies would be awesome with giant robots and monsters.

I may go this weekend to see it. Local racetrack isnt running, so it movie night may replace race night.

Ah, race night. I haven't been to the track in a LONG time. Used to go to the dirt track for stock cars every Saturday night with the parents. Serious white-trash entertainment. And that was just the people in the bleachers.

I distinctly remember throwing a snocone on some bitch in front of us one night. I don't remember WHY I did it, but I remember it seeming like the perfect thing to do at the time. My parents weren't thrilled about it though.

I was a little fucker.

Alien extended cut basically gives you some more backstory and a few extra goodies to an already perfect movie.

Aliens extended cut is IMHO a different movie altogether and should have been edited as the "original" which Cameron agrees. You see how the aliens/facehuggers get into the camp on LV-426, there's the love interest with Ripley and Hicks, the scene w/ the auto turrets, etc..

Alien3 also too, I liked the original Fincher cut, not the shit Fox redid and made blech.

Yeah. I been going to dirt track races since I was in utero. I come from a family of drivers, car builders, car owners, etc . I always wanted to do it, but have too much temper & not enough bank account.

I usually try to go every weekend, but the management at our home track is all f*cked up & not running every weekend. They've ran one of the best Dirt Tacks in the United States in the ground. Low payouts & not running late models weekly are just part of the problem. Thats all a different rant though.

We went to Clarksville TN to the races last weekend. They have a little rinky-dink 1/4 mile track. There's some REALLY good people watching there. It'll give Wal Mart a run for it's money, when it comes to white trash lulz.

While they were packing the track, some guy in a rattle can painted Camaro street stock comes chugging down the front stretch... Mullet (the perm in the back mullet), gigantic side of the neck tat. I LOL'd IRL.

Fun until the 60 YO biker chick with home-made tats, & a gallon of Dollar General Store perfume sat down close to us . I'd rather caught the occasional whiff of a porto-potty than had to smell dollar Store perfume :vomit:

Heard from some folks I trust that live in cities with real theaters and saw the midnight show last night: Off the chain fucking awesome.

Also, clip from a fight scene. (Spoilerish)

Fuck me. Fight scenes where you can actually see what's happening? Some of the voice acting could be toned back a bit, but shit, this looks awesome.

Apparently, you also wanna stick around after the credits if you go. :rawk:

Are you guys actually surprised by this information at this point? I mean, he's in every ad, his voice-over about canceling the apocalypse is in ever media ad they have, and he's all over the place in posters and the like. Did everybody see, "oh, giant robots," and go, "fuck Michael Bay" and stop paying attention?
