I'll take the growling over the screechy operatic nonsense for sure, but there are singers that can sing with balls without sounding like someone in gastrointestinal distress. Kyle from Exhorder is my personal favorite. The dude has amazing pipes and can sing with anger and energy without sounding like he's vomiting. I also think that Phil from Pantera did some really great vocals at times, but also just plain threw up a lot too.

My all time favorite metal album with god awful vocals was The Crumbsuckers "Beast on my Back". Some phenomenal musicianship, but the vocals are the sonic equivalent of someone vomiting directly into your mouth.

DispersE though brah

Though I guess calling them strictly "metal" might be a stretch.....I consider them a "life metal" band :D

Seems like a lot of people don't enjoy their singer but I think he fits the vibe of the music perfectly

I love the Ramones. And death metal vocals. As well as the most power-y of power metal vocals  :fap: :fap: :fap:

...provided the music is right. Death/black vocals overtop super melodic riffage sounds equally as dumb as a band trying to force clean singing over borderline grindcore.

i can't deal with Cookie Monster growling OR operatic high-singing. sucks, because a lot of good music is ruined for me as soon as i hear those "grizzly bear getting a prostate exam" vocals.

i like just straight up screaming ... Brian from Shadow's Fall, Phil in Pantera, Rob Dukes-era Exodus ... that kinda stuff.

Dukes-era Exodus is best era of Exodus.

Also I love Shadows Fall.

I don't disagree. Squeezing more excellent techy riffs into one 2 minute song than most metal bands can come up with in an album. Or a career.
Plus the hate from the gatekeepers is delicious.

Grunge is terrible but Grunge 2.0 is awesome; i.e.
Foo Fighters>Nirvana
Velvet Revolver> STP or GnR
Audioslave> Rage or Soundgarden

Ozzy Scream release is his best. Zakk writes the riffs, Gus delivers it flawlessly, tones, performance, and songwriting are amazing, Ozzy gets into gristly screaming.

Grizzly Bear Getting a Prostate Exam would make a great name. For a band or an album, I'm not sure which, but it has a timeless quality that would resonate with anyone who's ever had a prostate exam.

And I agree about Rob Dukes era Exodus, who I consider the High Preists of Thrash Metal. To still be killing it after 40 years in that style of music is amazing.

I was never really into Soundgarden. Rage has some amazing tracks but not enough before sounding the same. But Audioslave, especially that 1st release, is right up my alley. Near perfection

I do love me some Audioslave. But I’ve always been a huge Soundgarden fan. And I love Rage too. I can’t put Audioslave above either one. But I do love their albums. I’m actually a big fan of Revelations. No it’s not their best one, but damn that one has some grooves.
