Even though I busted in this thread to drop SMW and Oceansize, I actually think Oceansize isn't very post-rock (just has post-rock elements at times). Also you're wrong and I have no respect for you anymore. GTFO. Billy, ban this fucker. :cop:

On the realz though, I can see how some of their songs might be boring on the first couple of listens, but they also have really rocky stuff and/or shorter, traditionally structured stuff that I really don't think is monotonous. Like "Remember Where You Are", "Heaven Alive", "Unfamiliar", "SuperImposer", "Build Us A Rocket Then", etc. Fuck I love that band. :cop:

I probably just need to listen to them more to be honest

My mind is only open. The only music I actually hate is ghost and the most recent faceless album  (ghost that shit retro rock band, not the awesome psyche/experimental group from Asia)

Yeah that's the band, fucking terrible

Shitty music, shitty gimmick. Sounds like stoner rock lite, and they're huge for some reason :freak:

Naw, I get the Ghost hate.

I mean, they just ripped off King Diamond, threw in a bit of Blue Oyster Cult, and went over the top on theatrics and "secrecy". Its gimmicky as hell and completely ridiculous.

I enjoy them in limited doses because I find the songs catchy and hilarious but I also get why people wouldn't like them.

I agree, Ghost is vastly overrated. Does not understand hype. Though I think I could tolerate them a lot more than the fucking Black Angels.

I'm not a Ghost fan boy (and didn't know they were well known or received) but if you only hate one band out of every band in existence... i can't understand it being that one.

The "gimmick" is smart. It's all tongue in cheek and fun. The theatrics are great, the whole back story of Papaganda is hilarious with the videos of him showing his face (but it's just another mask), the songs are catchy, the singing is above average for the genre. I think it's good ol' satanic fun. It's a throwback and nod to so many metal bands that used to do that sort of thing back in the day and refreshing from all the crap metal guys who take themselves so seriously. I would enjoy seeing them over 75% of rock / hard rock / metal bands out there.

Theatrics can be entertaining. Like say, The Upper Crust. They put on their costumes, insult you to your face and then rock your world in hysterical fashion.

What always has bugged me are the prog/metal/nerd rockers that try to make it sound like their music theory is way too complicated for mere mortals to grasp.

Hey fucktards, the musical aplhabet only goes up to G. It's all just notes scales and modes.

Wow, we really see this completely the opposite. I won't say I hate them, but they are TREMENDOUSLY overrated. People treat them like they're the second coming and I don't get it.

The gimmick is overblown and has been done better before.

The songs might be catchy, but the singing is TERRIBLE and throws me out the second it starts.

The whole idea that metal needs to continually look backward to be any form of good also annoys me on an innate level. That said, there's about fifty stoner bands I'm aware of that I would listen to before Ghost would come anywhere near my ears, and Stoner isn't exactly my bag. It's just that there's so many that play the "old metal" better than Ghost.

I will agree that anybody in metal that takes themselves or their music too seriously needs a good kick in the jigglers, but if the music doesn't back it up it doesn't matter how goofy you are.

Ghost doesn't piss me off for existing. But much like Jesus, their followers annoy the piss out of me for constantly preaching about how perfect they are.

Yeah, again, I had no idea they even had a following. I ran across them sometime last year, bought the album, watched some videos and enjoyed it. That's all, just enjoyed it. The idea of the band is a throwback and the gimmick is funny to me. I don't like my music funny.... not the stuff i love... but i still find it enjoyable and a good time. Can't speak to their fans or it being overblown because i wasn't aware of any of that. I totally agree they're no second coming of anything. It's really not even metal... it's like progressive and metal and 80's and :idk: ... unique and interesting in its own way. For some reason i didn't even think of this in the terms of Stoner rock. Doesn't fit that category to me and believe me, i'd listen to Graveyard, Witchcraft, Orcid, Sword, Pallbearer, Royal Thunder, Uncle Acid, etc etc etc all day long over this. Doesn't fall into that grouping to me. Regardless, hype not on my radar, i think it's enjoyable. Nothing more than that. It's entertainment to me more than anything... i'm not listening to them or watching them because of their killer riffs or the singer's incredible vocal range.... it's fun entertainment and i don't mind it being a throwback and nod to old metal bands of the same ilk because there's not a lot of these days. I'm ALL for the genre(s) moving forward and not living in the past but i also wouldn't want what made the past great to go away either. There's plenty of other bands that tickle my fancy far more that either replicate old or break new boundaries. I band like Ghost would never be a favorite band of mine due to it just being entertainment to me.

Either way.... they're better than AC/DC.

It's funny, This thread has become a debate over various degrees of crappiness, and which band is inherently less crappy than others.

I would bring the hate on AC/DC along with Ruiner to help him feel better as I feel that band had one great tune that they kept playing for forty years, but every time I do that people end up pulling their dicks off and beating me with them and I just had a good dick beating at the office today so I'm good.

EDIT: And I'm in for listening to Winger. Finally, Ruiner and I can agree on something.

Trying to tell by the stage, was that first or second album tour? I went to the second album tour. Tangier, Extreme, Winger. I was in High School so as you can imagine the crowd was enjoyable almost as much as the band. Good lord those bands pulled in the hawties. There were so many soaked panties in that arena you could basically slide your way through the crowd without anybody noticing.

That was a good night.

OMG! GTFO!

Hair Metal Cred -10

I dug anything with hard driven guitars in it during the eighties, right up to where bands starting turning into complete shit. Enuff z'nuff was the line in the sand. It was like that band had the perfect name for what happened. Like the whole world saw the name, went, "yep, you're right," and shut it all down.

Thankfully, you have given this thread relevance.

The term "post Rock" implies that it doesn't or will ever Rock.

So, using simple arithmetic....

Post+Rock=Fail.

Rock+Roll=Win.

I don't sub-genre well. Not that I have a problem with industry labeling, I'm simply naive to what all these categories mean. Also, I admit I've never heard of any of the bands relevant to this thread, so I'm not exactly up to speed on what's new.

It reminds me of that Dickey Betts quote, something along the lines of- "rock and roll was invented in the South. So when people say 'southern rock', they're really saying 'rock rock'."
I guess if lumping your music into a category makes it easier for listeners to find you, then it works. :idk:
