There've been so many theoretical deals at this point, I don't have any idea where it's gonna end up landing. Other than likely right square on the face of the middle class, nutsack first.
nothing like a massive communist/socialist corporate bail out to really get govt working again!! they cant agree on anything expect giving free money to the corps with the best lobbyists.
if you wanted to be super evil its not hard to imagine something like this happening purely for monetary gain.

Yeah both sides keep trying to throw in their own shit on it instead of getting the job done for the American people. I had hoped crisis would be enough to get around partisan wrangling for at least a couple weeks. Naive to think in retrospect.

It's maddening to watch. I'm not seeing anyone involved in the bickering in a very good light. I sense a lot of incumbents loosing their place in the next elections, that is if we get to have them.

across the United States, 38% of those hospitalized were between the ages of 20 and 54. def was an early myth that this only affected old people.
obviously bc its a respiratory disease it also affects smokers way more.
anyone that thought it only affected the old is an idiot.... it may have harsher consequences for the older because they have weaker systems but it's not like the virus is asking for your ID to check your age before it infects you lol

Actually I saw a Dr. somewhere explaining that the way the virus works when it is deadly is that it gets your own immune system to attack your own lungs. Which - in older people - they have active immune systems - having seen a lot more intruders in their lifetime. Younger people's immune systems may not react so strongly to the virus - hence it does less damage.
I haven't heard that again - although I have heard numerous times about it turning your own defenses on yourself, once it takes up residence in your lungs.

At the risk of sounding like a total fear-monger, thinking this is just another flu or a kinda bad flu is dangerous guys, don't go down that road.
yeah but Italy is fairing considerably worse than the rest of the world for some unknown reason. I don't know anything about epidemics but I do global data analysis for a living and if one of the regions I work with was doing that much worse than the global average I would immediately look into local causes. There's something there that's being missed, whether it's genetics, environment or behavior, I don't know. But there's definitely something off in the Italian case. I am surprised this is not being looked at more. Or maybe they are looking at it idk.

Billy from my recollection of being in Italy there are a lot of smokers and they’re smoking A LOT.
Looking up data 30% of adult males smoke there, that’s about double the US rates. Not sure how it compares to the rest of the world but that can’t be helping considering the viruses effect on lungs.

FWIW, this is anecdotal, but I spent 2 weeks with a big family in Sicily doing mostly non-touristy things.
The adults/parents/elderly with whom I interacted are not healthy, in general. They eat cured meats at every meal, and NEVER drink water. They all have lymphatic issues that could be a big problem when hoping for a strong immune system. I know everybody likes to say, "uhh, American is so fat. People Europe walk everywhere. we much healthy."
In Italy, it was a different story. (not that they're fat) People seem to age quickly when they literally don't drink water. Since there are no public bathrooms, people don't drink water for fear of needing to take a piss. It's foreign to me.
Just thinking out loud trying to make sense of this Italy situation.
