Idris himself was tested because he had spent time with someone who was later confirmed to have it. Which to my mind is a valid reason to get tested.
As for how seriously I'm taking it? 10-9-9. We make our weekly grocery run. We walk the dogs on empty streets. We do the weekly pet shopping and grab take-out. Outside of that? We're on lock and don't leave the house/yard. We're loners by nature so it's no big. She's been out of work for a bit anyway, and I'm work from home so it's working fine thus far for us.
I do think the corona virus is demonstrating what a house of cards we've made of our healthcare system. We're ill prepared to face normal circumstances if people actually started going to the doctor regularly as they should. Bring on something like this and we're scrambling to keep up.
Meanwhile our government bickers rather than acts. They need a good swift kick to remind them what their jobs are. I'm talking universally here.
On the brighter side of things, I'm seeing some really impressive efforts from some companies to keep things running smoothly. Best Buy has stopped allowing people in store, but you can either order on the web or call in to order and they'll bring it to your car. They're also paying those willing to work during this time an extra bit for endangering themselves, and paying those that stay home their normal take-home. That's stepping up in a way I didn't expect from them.
Several local and franchise food places are switching tactics and making take-home ready-made meals rather than making food to eat in. Most of them also offer curbside to the car rather than forcing you to go into their facility to pick up orders.
Don't know about your cities, but ours looked like a ghost town when we cruised through for the pet food run on Sunday. The intersections that are usually jam packed and backed up for miles had maybe two or three cars on each spur. So apparently most got the memo.
Meanwhile the church up the road from us was jamming with hundreds in attendance.
Stay safe, everybody. We're in this together.

as someone who used to work in restaurants i would be super careful or be calm and just assume you will get it.
those folks need every shift and have no problems going to work sick - its not like they have paid time off or wont just get replaced if they call out one too many times. our singer works at pf changs and says that many have come to work sick in the last few weeks.
i realize you could say the same about going to the grocery store too, just an observation.

I find it hard to believe anyone can rate a 9 or a 10 if they’re leaving there house even for groceries. But maybe that’s just me, and I don’t mean that to start a fight.
I’m on day 7 of not leaving the house (quick errand last Monday.) My paranoid ass is ordering Amazon Fresh and still concerned about catching it from the bags left on my doorstep.
But yes, my wife and I are lucky enough to be able to work from home.
A silver lining? I’ve learned how great grocery delivery can be
Edit: I’m just glad a lot of people seem to be taking this seriously. I have some family members who aren’t, and I’ve made it clear we won’t be seeing them for a while. Even when the “lockdown” ends in IL, I’m not trying to be around people who actively are going out because they think this is some political hoax. But I guess that’s because I have a young daughter and want to be here for her

We're on a limited lock down.... my Wife is feeling it hard now because she's a massage therapist, needless to say no one realllly wants a massage right now.... we're hoping that we can bump up her gift certificate sales to help out... at the end of the day looks like my salary will be the only real income we're going to have for a while and that means I have to cover her rent which doesn't make things that much easier for us financially... thankfully we don't have many living expenses, cars are paid off, no rent or mortgage either... just utilities, food, Mrs rent and her horse which both of those we may be able to get a break on for the next couple months hopefully....

Everyone at my company was just put on a three day work week.
The company can't afford to keep everyone on, full time, at the moment.
It's not an issue for me, as long as it doesn't last more than a few months. However, it's going to be tough for some of the staff.

all my employees are salaried so less hours won't help, right now we are ensuring we have enough work to push us through to the end of the month to get invoicing up so we can at least have some cash in the account to pay everyone should we have to shut down..... I'm trying my best not to lay people off right now but unfortunately it's not off the table. We are also looking at what a skeleton staff operation would look like and the logistics of it. It's all a little overwhelming to be honest since we operate in four different islands and each Gov't is giving different levels of assistance etc...

Actually, the people who were told to work 3 days a week are salaried... myself, the VP, Controller, House Account Rep.
Payroll is just going to divide our salary by 5 and multiply by 3.
Some of the hourly people will be unaffected because they really do the work... others will be laid off.
Good news is that I have Tuesdays and Fridays off! WOOO HOOO!!!!

Bad news, the g/f has a honey-do list a mile long!

I'd lay even money the VP and Controller are still getting full pay...........Unless you work for a really large company and you are just a satellite location.

For all I know, I may be the only one getting a pay cut!
I've been wanting to find a job closer to home anyway but, that's going to have to wait until everything settles down.

I was taking this seriously 100% from Saturday to Saturday (3/14-3/21). My family and I stayed in the house except on Wednesday, we opened the side gates to our house and walked/jogged the inside perimeter of our property and fucked around a bit in the backyard.
After this one week, I determined at least none of us had it. This past Saturday, I ordered from a phone app and did a drive-thru/take-out from a local fast food joint. Then later that day we went for a walk, which felt GREAT, as we kept our distance from others along the way.
Yesterday, we went for another walk, and it was sunny enough that back at home I spent at least an hour in my underwear and sunglasses sunbathing and reading a book in my backyard. THAT FELT AWESOME TOO! (Then it strangely rained.)
Then I went, duh-duh, DUN, shopping: Costco and Trader Joe's. Wow, Costco was spacious with very few shoppers, and pretty much fully stocked. I didn't even check to see their toilet paper and water supply as I never understood that panic. I also noticed most of the Costco people weren't wearing masks, as I was.
Then I modified my perception of all this. So far, based on the information I know, this is similar to the seasonal flu with 10-times the lethality, which leaves certain people in general more vulnerable. Furthermore, the media is bent on reporting, and even demanding, each and every confirmed case. If we did that with the regular flu, we would have an even more astronomical number.
I am still serious about this, and I stay home, which is not hard to do. But I am no longer stressing myself out over this. There's no food shortage (yet). There's certainly a shortage in calmness.
All that is asked of me is to not go to work, stay away from people, and practice excellent hygiene. It's not so much me getting it, but me getting it and giving it to someone who is vulnerable that's the issue here.
I think the media is focusing too much on cases, and not more on deaths (and what kind of people are dying) and the many many survivors. I get it, it's better for the media to report worst case scenarios to influence the public as a whole. I just have re-taken control of my own mind and am practicing what the government wants of me, without it leaving me depressed and desperate.
As I have recently changed my perception on the Covid-19, I reserve the right to change my mind again with newer and reliable information and experiences.

Our government is voting on a $2 trillion stimulus bill. That's $6,000 for each of the 327 million Americans!

Fair enough, hard for us to say if that week was enough...but I applaud you for doing what you can.
Personally I’ve heard up to 14 days so I’m still going to be concerned for another few days. My wife is on day 10 and me on day 7. We’re both in our 30’s but feel we can’t be too safe.
I look forward to eventually feeling comfortable going places. And buying things. I really could use a new computer to actually be able to record and play music with my helix setup, but I recognize buying a $1,500 laptop probably isn’t the best thing right now. Then again, I am stuck in the house for the next few weeks most likely and would like to make music.
Stay well everyone!

Ummm... 327 million x $6 = $1.962 BILLION.
$2,000,000,000,000 divided by 327,000,000 = $6116.20

Absolutely. If we all hunkered down like you are, we won't have to keep resetting the clock and wait another two weeks. It would be cheaper too. "Alright, for the next three days, get what you need because we're gonna go on a 2-week lock down." This would be mostly likely over with by mid-April.
I'm not trying to change your views here, just expressing mine. I figure that if I am extra extra vigilant in not catching the flu, then first, I'll be okay. On top of that, if I'm already not coming in contact with people physically except my wife and kids, who are known non-carriers (thus far), then I'm good again. I'm especially not going near my parents or some of my elderly neighbors until all this blows over.
If I go out again for a shopping run, then it's "Do everything you can to avoid catching the flu" minus staying home. Wash your hands: use hand sanitizer if you can't; put a mask on so you don't breather in easily breathe in anything or touch your face; and keep your distance from people.
Until it is proven so, I personally am not going to stress out over this as if I'm in that M. Knight Shyamalan movie "The Happening" where the shit was seemingly in the air.
The stress component of this affects my immune system too. I'm going to appropriately stress over this +1, instead of trying to adhere and keep to a perfect standard. I'm trying to contol my mind here too. It's just my friggen ego sometimes hinders me, so who knows how my thoughts will change later.

The government is sitting on a huge pile of money. They will never let us know how much is really in the treasury.
If they ever run short, they can print trillions.... in reality, they don't even have to print it; they can just add more zeros to the balance in the treasury.

We own the printing presses. Money should be free anyway. The whole financial system is just a conjuring of the human imagination.
It's time to re-imagine the whole thing.

That's never, ever, EVER going to happen. The current talk seems to be possibly two separate $1,000 payments to those of a specific scenario, the rest of that money is going straight to "important businesses." Which at the moment seems to be airlines, cruise lines, vacation industries, banks, and some major government contract manufacturers that seemingly run on pork barrel spending and dreams.
While there are some pushing for larger payments to individuals, they're being beaten back with a proverbial baseball bat every time they get the floor. Shockingly, in a real first, it's not split down party lines.
Expect this to make the bank bailout of the past look like a cakewalk.

That's also been put out there. Doesn't seem like anything is set in stone yet.
Fingers crossed the people that need it get it before it's too late. The way our "leadership" and I use that term loosely, is handling this situation they might just fuck around with it until it's well past expiration before they move on it.
