Never heard of battle brothers.
If they’re German, they will suck.
Edit: intriguing. Chinese, yet expensive and well-rated.
Very interesting.

Re: Gillette
Rocked the SLOC.
SOTD:

Dayum!! so many things went right today! Thrilled.
Razor - SLOC. Damn. this thing shaved perfectly. Even though it's a cast zinc, China source job, the shape is a classic. Effortless.
Blade: Gillette Blue Platinum. Perfect sharp ass blade for this razor.
Brush: Aluminum 400 noir. wow.
Soap: Rasozero Agrumella. lemon scent. Explosive lather. Amazing shave. $5. Made by Tcheon Fung Sing. This is the best of the best. just amazing.
Aftershave: TFS Tabacum Crepita Linea Intenso. Hmm, the only negative. This burns me in an allergic way. Bummer, because it smells awesome. Kind of like Uncle Walter in the night. Pure cigar lounge scent.
9/10, just because of the aftershave reaction.

Niiiiiiice.
Glad so many of us digging on that SLOC. Even though it’s cheap I’m super happy with it, even over more expensive stuff I have. I did 4th shave with it yesterday, no weepers, no cuts. It’s just a badass.
Thanks for the rec Gene.

No pics, but #5 with the SLOC, 3rd with this blade. Stupafacente for soap.
No cuts, no weepers, zero irritation.
Fuck this combo is really working for me. I’m stoked. I’ve always had to wait because of irritation and/or meat grinder face but with this gear I feel like I could make this an every day thing.

Had to do it dude. This thing is amazing to me. I can buff with this thing and nothing. It’s never bitten me once.

SOTD:

Started early. went to a happy place. no cares in the world. Used WAYYYY more product than I needed. Might as well with a kilos on the way of this stuff.
Razor: SLOC - still great today. It's nice to shave with wreckless abandon and no worries about cutting one's self. Definitely mild though. I can see on day 2, I miss some of the aggressiveness of my other razors. My shave could be closer.
Blade: day 2 of Gillette Blue Platinum. That's enough. no need to find out on day 3 that it won't shave as well.
Brush: Aluminum 400 Noir. awesome. The handle actually retains heat in this thing.
Soap: TFS Rasozero Spiffero. SO, I wanted to give this an "all things equal" shot to compete with the lemon agrumella Rasozero. The Spiffero is decent, but not a transcendental experience like the agrumella. No problem. This is still fine soap.
Aftershave - WHolly Kaw fougere Bouquet. Such a big fan of this. This is my signature aftershave right now. Bigger menthol kick than I expected today. Nice!
Going to go 8.5/10 today just because the blade was already going downhill. The Spiff couldn't quite hang with the Aggrumella. And, I'm longing for a closer shave after 2 days with the SLOC.

Dude I feel you on the closer shave deal, but to me it’s almost worth just shaving every day using the SLOC and not slicing myself all to hell using something like the Hawk. Got some new soap coming this week, I’ll use the SLOC until then and hit the new stuff with the BS.
Maybe I can work out using the SLOC 4-5 times and kicking the BS into the rotation once a week.

Bright color SOTD:

Kick ass. Fun shave, not without its challenges though.
Razor: Karve CB Open Comb D. I think I love this, but never sure. His safety bar razors feel smoother to me, and this handle is too long and heavy for me. I shouldn't have gone so bigly.
Blade: GIllette Minora. I paid too much for these because they are rare. They are about on par with the Blue Platinums though. They Aiight. Cool rarity factor.
Brush: Plastic razorock 400. Decided to use this since my 2 year old dented my aluminum one last night. No biggy. He learned how to lather soaps. Actually, he did a good job. Better than some noobs.
Soap: Lather Brothers Flamingo Trance. Decent lather. Awesome scent. Awesome Performance. SMells kind of like limey fruity bay rum. Pretty heavy for a soap. Didn't burn.
Aftershave: Lather Brothers Amaroso. Rose Strawberry. Very sweet and feminine. I'm in love with my own scent. It's not enough to get me in trouble or piss off the office, but it's definitely on par with wearing pink clothes. I am REALLY into rose scents right now. It turns out, I'm not allergic to it. I think I was just allergic to everything TOBS makes.
This was a solid 9/10 only because a weeper on my neck, and my disappointment in this blade's less than perfect performance at this price.

You can buy much smaller handles. This is the 4”. They have four sizes from 3 to 4”.
They have like 8 different blade gap levels too.
I’ll elaborate later!

So, the blade gap levels are,
AA, A B C D E F, FF
I have safety bar D and E
I have open comb D
The E starts getting into too aggressive territory for me. The blade gap is wide enough that it’s not adding any more cutting efficiency than was already available on D.
The open comb doesn’t add anything to this design imo. Just takes away smoothness and elegance.
Fwiw, the opposite is true on my blackland blackbird. The open comb is art, and the safety bar feels slightly strange.

Re: Gillette
SOTD

Decided to revisit the Vegano Gene.....haven't used it since the first time; didn't really enjoy the scent and liked UW and the Savon more, but figured I'd give it a shot. Works well, lathers up great. Slightly more experienced now, felt more of a burn from this....could see why it'd irritate you. I could feel it working on me as I was shaving lol.
Getting used to the SLOC, maybe too familiar...can buff with this thing usually no problem, but the combination of buffing and this soap got me a little bit:

I'll have to be careful with this combo in the future. Perfect SLOC record ruined, son of a bitch.
7/10 cause reasons

BTW.......!!!!!.........Barrister & Mann Diamonds goes live in 42 minutes. It's supposed to smell like a baseball game.
beer, grass, caramel corn, dirt, leather, pine, wood.
I'm going to buy it.

SOTD:
killer.

Razor: Blackland Brass Blackbird. I still don't like it as much as my Black Oxide open comb blackbird, but it shaved awesomely today.
Blade: Gillette Blue Platinum. I can tell it's 2 and done, but it still worked perfectly.
Brush: LOVE this butterscotch 400 synth. Nice and light. durable. soft. cheap. perfect.
Soap: Grooming Dept. Soap. Smells like my Church growing up, actually. More interesting and intense than straight up "soap", I was expecting safeguard like at Arby's . Smells more like expensive incense. shaved like latex paint. incredible. I'd say it's worth the money. This is the Janus Vegan base.
Aftershave: Barrister & Mann Reserve Classic. This is the modern rebirth of the GIllette Sun Up aftershave from the 60's. This could be my signature aftershave, and it doesn't sting at all. great scent. Smells like mid century modern.
Overall, I'd give it a 10/10.

SOTD: Pretty great.

Razor: Fatip Wenge Testina Gentile. This head is made to make shitty blades tolerable. I love it. Maybe a bit too much buffing, but never cuts me.
Blade: Lamix Platinum from Turkey. Better than Zaza, probably on par with Derby. Will not buy 100.
Brush: Butterscotch 400 synthetic. Still amazing.
Soap: Wholly Kaw Chypre Rose Concerto. So...........I got this from Groomatorium, and while I love them, they are notorious for selling inventory that's been sitting on the shelf for years. Like this. This is from before they switched containers and before they switched bases to Donkey Milk. This is the old tallow formula. It doesn't pack quite the wow of the DM formula, BUT.....It lathers like crazy. It smells amazing. It shaves fantastically. And, it was about $10 cheaper than the donkey dick formula. SO, it's a win.
Aftershave: I go back and forth on the Single X Razorrock, but RR can't be argued with when it comes to good scents. Smells sort of like green tea sage Weston hotel smell, but sort of more floral. I like how crystal clear and untinted the liquid and bottle are. They inspire a feeling of freshness. I smell great.
Overall 8/10, just because of the shit blade. Very enjoyable.

Slapped on the splash yesterday after it showed up; kind of a warmer scent, smells good tho. Dig it. Gonna bust the Hawk after work and do a 1 pass just to see what up with the soap.

Ahhhhhh, you want to open the Pandora's fatip box??????
so, it begins!
1. v1 vs v2. Don't get confused when people mention v1 or v2. You won't find V1 anything in stock anywhere. it's old news. it doesn't mean anything to a current shopper.
2. Open comb vs safety bar. The safety bar IS the Testina Gentile (gentle head). The open comb is medium aggressive. nothing like a SLOC. FWIW, the Testina Gentile shaves closer to the SLOC. That said, the open comb and safety bar baseplates are interchangeable. They are both compatible with the same top plates.
3. Which model? (remember, there are ONLY 2 heads. open and closed. they are the same regardless of which model handle you get.)
piccolo - small, but mighty. This thing has style. around $20, but out of stock at IB
piccolo SE - same as above, but beautiful gun metal gray with gold safety bar AND gold open comb. PERFECT for trying both heads. I use this extra safety bar on my retro handle. $31 after currency exchange from Connaught shaving. great vendor BTW. OOS at IB for $40.
Retro - thin long handle. cool feel. similar price to piccolo.
grande - feels more like a gillette aristocrat handle. cool razor. not as unique as the others.
Nobile - black tie or faux horn. resin/plastic handles. They look great. I have the faux horn. I like it.
wood gentiles. - wenge, olivewood, walnut, etc. These are great, but I would stay in the $20 to start.
different finishes. get what you want. I like nickel and gold.

Crap. I might do the Piccolo, but if it’s more aggressive than the SLOC I might skip it. I got aggressive covered with the Hawk.

The safety bar on the special edition is damned gentle though. And they’re solid brass.
You will buy a fatip. Then, you’ll buy more.
