8.5/10 Give it an extra point if you can trade a weak script for some seriously fun ultra-violence.

Enjoyed this one quite a bit. Feel like I’ll watch anything with him in it and more than likely be entertained

Saints of Newark - fuck you / 10
This waste of digital bits was created to supposedly show you how Tony Soprano got made. It takes bunch of people you either knew or heard about in the Sopranos, puts them in some familiar and some not familiar settings, throws in some black folks so they can show what racist pieces of shit all the Italians dudes are, then essentially farted in its hand for two hours doing fuck-all plot wise. For all the blowing about how great it was to see Gandolfini's son playing him, that barely registered as a part in the movie. About three quarters of the way in I realized they think they're creating the setup chapter of an entire series of movies about Tony Soprano. The problem is, they forgot that a series of movies needs a good foundation. And this is far from that.
In some cases they didn't even get the nostalgia grabs correct.
Do yourself a favor and punch anybody suggestion to watch this piece of shit. Even if you get hauled off to jail it's still better use of your time than watching this fucking failure of nothing.

The stupid face the combover kid playing Little Steven's character (name I can't remember because I missed the Soprano's boat in general) seriously made me want to punch him everytime he was on screen.

I made it to about 30 minutes and then started rewatching The Sopranos. Movie is a total waste

Watched this a few days ago. Felt like a B level mob movie that was Sopranos in name only.
Definitely agree with your sentiment of it being a setup for a series of movies. I’ve heard it described before as making a prequel for a sequel that doesn’t exist. Instead of starting with something good they are just putting a turd out there.

Finally watched the Night House. Basically; Olive Oil is in an abusive relationship with a spirit. That took the form of her husband.
Liked the concept and the actress does a good job in these kinds of roles. As well as being the front runner for the non-existent Popeye live action reboot. But a little too much A24 and not enough "hey how about we be scary" for my tastes. I think the visuals were cool and I did like the whole invisible man does the spirit world vibe colliding with the laws of physics. The ending was a little too quiet and ambiguous for me as well.

Watched The Guilty last night with Jake Gyllenhall. Remake of a German(?) flick about a police call center worker who falls into a bad situation unexpectedly and has to help a kidnapped woman.
Good flick. I tried with the original but it was SO dialog heavy iirc (and not dubbed, I don't believe) so it wasn't something I wanted to sit down with. Gyllenhall is such a great actor and he does all the heavy lifting. It kind of reminds me of Locke (Tom Hardy flick) but with a lot more excitement and a bit more variation in location.
On a Gyllenhall note; dude should do another comedy sometime. I don't know if Boy in the Bubble was so bad for him or what

He does drama so well it seems like he might need a break to do something light and stupid at some point

It Follows 9/10
Still holds up. Just hanging out, nothing to really watch and it popped up. Seen it already, still gave me some anxiety, worth watching again. Kind of interesting how much you missed the 1st time. Interesting take and I still dug it and so did she.
The ambiguous timeline got me too, WTF did this take place? These chicks don’t give a fuck about their hair, the clothes are vintage and so are a lot of the cars, but homie across the street had a SS fridge and stove while driving a 70s station wagon, plus all the electronics are weirdly dated…
Had to leave and check out my mom’s place as she’s in Mexico and it kind of freaked me out to be in an empty house.

Swan Song. Udo Kier/10
Love Udo and he shines through this movie about an old, flamboyant hairstylist tasked to do one more job. Thought I would not like it, but the girl wanted to watch it. I ended up loving it.

The Attic (1980). Alcoholic suicidal librarian who is a slave to her disabled father. She keeps a flask in her desk at the library and pours it into little plastic cups that she sips on through the day.
She meets a sailor on leave from the Navy who is half her age. He takes her back to his hotel room and they get into bed. Sailor is drinking a Coors which she takes from him and downs it, then he boinks her and she proceeds to call him another man's name mid-boink while psychotically babbling about how they are going to get married today. Dude just keeps plowing her.
Then she kills her father and gets locked in the attic with a corpse and a dead monkey.

Halloween Kills. Brutal af. Anthony Michael Hall's character was terrible and that mob justice angle was dumb af. Still enjoyed it overall but buyer beware.

Free Guy 8/10
This thing had so many moments in it, but the one that killed me was when he saved the guy that was on fire, got a hug, sent him on his way and then a player character shot the guy in the face and then teabagged him. Total gamer moment and I could not stop laughing. Good shit.

The story is presented to you with no explanations. It is what it is. It's brilliant and not too cerebral.
