Conjuring 3. Solid little flick. Little too much jumping around and some things they just assume they don't need to explain. I mean, I get it; yet it seems like they could tie things together a bit more. Solid watch nonetheless.

I liked the first one better. Part II just didn't cut it for me

I knew it was going to be bad. It was worse than that.

LORD OF WAR 9/10
Very, very, good....
I can't believe I got to see Nicolas Cage in a good movie, and in a role where he's not a whacked out loon chasing devil worshippers who are trying to kill him.
OK, OK, so it was made 16 years ago

Censor. Weird little flick I kept seeing reviews/ads about. Girl works for the English board of censors (can't remember the org name) watching "video nasties" in the 80s. Thinks she sees her long lost sister in one of the films she is reviewing. Basically a mind*&^% without being tooooo far out there. Little less visceral than I expected, but in a good way. Main actress is going nuts and does a good job portraying the character and keeping the film as realistic as it's going to be. Good stuff.

Awake fail/10
The concept was cool, but maybe they should do better at hiring actors when they come up with a premise this out there. When the best "acting" in the film is the dude who played Iron Fist, and he kicks it in the first act, that's not exactly putting your best foot forward.
I'm also getting really tired of all high-concept horror/sci-fi/apocalypse films being intimate little "let's watch this tiny little group of people" things. It kinda gave me the idea of having a worldwide meltdown story and following a whole bunch of people to see all the different reactions. I haven't seen or read anything like that in forever. The idea that everybody's gonna react the same except for our hero douches is fucking wrong. People don't even react the same to little things like auto accidents. Not everybody is gonna go full god damned potato the second the world is ending.

I suppose there is that, but that took time to build. I mean, wave one was a relatively small number of people. Then it became a self-feeding problem, as those who just needed TP on their regular schedule couldn't find it, so when they did they bought way more than normal, and it just kept growing until people stuffed half their house with TP. I don't think the entire country woke up one morning and went, "I'm going to buy every paper product in sight!"

Watched No Sudden Move last week. Twisty Soderberg (sp?) crime flick. Great vibe and all that I love in a crime film. The story was a little too twisty but that ambition was admirable, even if I sort of lost my way a bit. Good flick.

I was with it up until Matt Damon. That was the point where my brain went, "OK, that's enough." It did create a really cool setup even if the premise wasn't super original, but the continuous plot about-facing only works so far before it's like, "Alright, we get it. You're clever."
We tried to watch the new Netflix series Fear Street 1994. Holy shit was that fucking horrible. I mean, I've been through some bad movies but this took the cake. In the first few minutes I mentioned to the wife it doesn't feel like we're the target audience. By the time we shut it off a half hour in I'm not sure who the target audience was meant to be. Perhaps mentally disabled teenage girls that have never interacted with other human beings?

the tomorrow war: 4/10
Mash up of a few other movies. Action and visuals were good but not great. Easily 30 minutes too long. It wasn't bad enough to be fun or good enough to hold my attention.

Agreed on the Damon point. I do like him in general; but it seemed like he was just dropping in to add some "star power" that didn't need to be there. DelToro should be in more stuff and Cheadle is always great.
We did Fear Street as well. It was like let's take Stranger Things, "wake it up" and make it more grown up and over complicated than it really needs to be. I drifted off mid movie because it was super late when I watched it but I thought it was solid. Ish? I will watch the next one mainly because summer camp, slashers and almost 1980s.

Yeah, I didn't get that at all from Fear Street. It was just outlandish, stupid bullshit tarted up with teenage drama bullshit and I literally checked out within minutes.
As for Tomorrow War? First half was fine and I actually dug that they didn't leave the possibility of wiping out entire families by taking people from the past to fight. Somewhere around that point or a little past they kind of gave up on trying and just let it be a dumb action flick. There was some fun there, but it was your basic "well set up premise" with a massive dropping of the ball long before the goal line. Ah well. Not all of Pratt's movies can be winners.

We're Pratt'd out rn. Grandboys been staying and we've watched the Lego Jurrasic stuff a ton. I'm fairly certain it isn't Pratt playing Pratt but that's enough borderline Pratt for us for now.

I only lasted less than a half hour before turning it off.
Ridiculously cheesy plot, horrible cookie cutter acting, totally predictable plot and action.

It's like someone read the Wikipedia pages for Jurassic World, Aliens, and Endgame, and then wrote a movie including all of the worst parts of each.
