Mortal: 6.5/10

Didn’t end up where I thought it was going to....on the one hand it was good but after I watched it I was kind of pissed it ended the way it did, it felt like a cop out.

They are still pumping out, just a bunch are being held back. Judas and the Black Messiah was incredible. Usually though, if I'm looking for really great thriller or horror, i tend to lean toward South Korea, Spain and France.

Saint Maude - Hmmmm. It has a very A24 feel to it (which is the studio that released it). I liked its pace and acting, but i think the story just kinda lacked. I could see where it was going pretty quickly. I enjoyed it though. The acting was really great and the editing/cinematography was great. I recommend on a day that you just kinda want to watch a simple story unfold in a good way.

Could you recommend some good South Korean movies? Trying to figure out what I'm going to watch this weekend.

Old Boy is literally my favorite movie. The other two in the trilogy are great too. They are not related in any other way than a vengeance theme, but they are still considered a trilogy. Old Boy is by far the best. The other two are Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance

In no order:

Old Boy (and the other 2)
Parasite
I Saw the Devil
The Host
The Wailing
Thirst
Train to Busan
Snowpiercer
The Housemaid

If you want to watch a movie with your wife/girlfriend but she isn't into rock movies, this is a good one.
"We Are The Best" is about three teenage girls in Sweden who start a punk band... it's more of a coming of age movie but it has some funny shit that anyone who's been in a band will laugh at.

Finally watched Good Time. Wow. Robert Pattinson is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. I mean... say what you will, but he even played a sparkley vampire the way he was supposed to.

Yep.Really good. Though there was a weird sympathetic turn I didn't feel belonged at a certain point.

On the other end of the spectrum, The Vanished. Netflix(?) turd with good actors doing terrible jobs acting with a terrible script/storyline to boot. Should have been a good to the point thriller but instead was dumb af with some really out of place scenes and performances. Waste of time.

I agree. The movie lost it in the scene where Dinklage and Pike are (spoiler) sitting next to the window in the hospital. He supposedly loved his mother and would kill the person that did that to her. (end spoiler)

Agreed completely. I think they tied it up nicely in those last few moments but that was too much a jump for me without being quite clever enough in the writing to pull it off.

Watched the latest "Wrong Turn" flick yesterday. :hmm: /10

Here's the thing. I LOVED the first one. One of THE best redneck slashers you will ever see. Perfect mix of suspense and gore. Get in and get going and have you squirming from the chase the entire time. GREAT dumb slasher flick. Character design was spectacular.

Then came the sequels. I think I watched 2, maybe 3 and I was out. I am an 80s kid. I grew up with bad horror sequels and know how dumb they are. But these just obliterated the quality bar set in the original and were just terrible. Bad setups, terrible writing and use of humor and just god awful.

The newest "sequel" is weird. It's tough to judge. I actually think they did pretty good with it. Based on it's own merits. With a HUGE but. The link to the original is not there. No more cannibals. Just some weird cult living in the woods. Which is a big checkmark against it. They manage to do ok with this premise, nonetheless. My biggest issue with the cult is the ridiculous looking character design of the people in the woods. It looks like a rip on the Village "monster". Just dumb and not scary.

I've read a lot of commentary on how they should have called it something else and I get it. It's the same writer for all of the installments so I do feel he has some right to reinvent his property. And I think he did better than what it could have been. The ending of the movie I thought would go one way but they threw the audience a bone :cop:  so that was a nice touch. Overall; I would like to see the writer return to the original premise, if he does another installmen;t and treat it with the same amount of desire to mix it up that he showed in this film.

TL;DR...Not a good movie; but props for trying.

COSMIC SIN 3/10
Not sure why I gave it 3 instead of 2, or 1, or 0, but I've come to learn that whenever you see Bruce Willis starring as a bad ass (maybe anything?) the movie's gonna suck.

WITCHES (2019 OR 20?) 5/10

typical Roald Dahl stuff....cute enough.....

"In & of Itself" 9/10 if not 10/10. I'll have to watch it again to confirm my high rating.

It's not a movie more than it is a stage performance of, I guess, a magician. But it goes way beyond that.

Wrapped up They Live from the recent Criterion Collection 4k release and man, what a great movie!!!

You can definitely pick up on some musical Big Trouble in Little China vibes in the flick.

I'd give it a rating of 9/10.
