Ok. I want to play this game pretty bad, but there's no fucking way I'm buying a PS3 for only this game with PS4 around the corner. So, I started watching a video on youtube of all the cutscenes and the important gameplay like a movie. It's already better than The Walking Dead. More realistic, better acting, more intense, more emotional involvement, etc.

So, yeah. I'm watching a video game like a movie.

ha well PS3 games will still be made until 2018 according to sony and most third party developers said every game that comes out on PS4 will most likely also be on ps3.

Another great reason is beyond two souls that game is going to be amazing.

On another note i just realised that Nolan North the VA for drake in uncharted and a few guards in MGS plays the role of David in TLOU

Yeah, no console just dies the instant its successor is released. Games will be made for several years afterwards, and if anything picking up a console towards the end of its life cycle can be a great thing. Some of the best games have been released for it recently, and I imagine there'll still be a few more coming. Plenty of great games already around too that can be picked up for sweet fuck all. The PS4 on the other hand will release with whatever limited number of titles, and it'll be a while before there's a decent range of good games out. And it'll probably all be on the pricier side of console gaming for a while.

Also, about characters/actors, was surprised to see the same guy did the voice acting for the main blokes in Bioshock Infinite and TLoU. And will apparently be Ocelot in MGSV.

It's pretty amazing just how skilled these guys are with their voices. I just did a little more reading and Troy Barker (Joel, Ocelot) also played two face in the batman arkham series and will also be playing the joker in the new arkham game.

Just picked up a 2nd hand PS3...mainly for this game (and GTA, Infamous 2, and Little Big Planet 2). Can't wait to pick it up tonight. The girlfriend is out of town for the weekend, so between this and the 2 out of town gigs I've got it should be an awesome weekend.

Gonna try not to read too many posts in here.

Finished it a couple weeks ago myself. It's seriously one of the best games I've ever played. It got to me psychologically and emotionally. That end bit too. I mean, well, it was definitely an ending. Great job to Naughty Dog. I guess I should give these Uncharted games a second chance.

Finally finished it the first time tonight. Starting on hard made it a little longer for sure, I had to give up and come back later a couple times.

Seemed like I was really diligent about scouring every nook and cranny for goodies but I still missed a boatload of crap.

Got home last night from jamming, girlfriend shows up with her little brothers PS3 and a rented copy of The Last of Us. That intro.... Murdoch y u no tell me?!? Amy was freaking out cause most of that is right down the street from our house.

I didn't get far at all. I'm in that first stealth section going after some dude named Robert. I will dive into it this weekend. I love what I've seen so far.

I'm 6-7 hours in. I'm looking for a guy in an old town who may give me a vehicle. Who knows. Clearly this gives nothing away

Hopefully finishing this up in the coming weeks. At least before GTA comes out.

That's what the thread was for, Shea. And yeah, the intro is amazing. You're still at the VERY beginning of the game. If you take the time to explore everything you can...and you absolutely should, since you're going to need all the supplies you can get...the game will take somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 hours to complete. It's not a short game by any means. If it's rented, you may want to gamefly it, or borrow it from someone if you can.

I was looking around a lot and didn't find much but I'm guessing it really starts to open up after the prologue/tutorial.

For some reason I was thinking this was more FPS and I wasn't prepared for the melee combat, but it was really fun. I beat down some fools down and smashed their faces.

Other thing is there seems to be some cool mechanics in this game. From the stealth take downs, and being able to use human shields, to using shivs and being able to instantly u-turn. Very cool stuff that I can't wait to explore further.

You guys got any suggestions/tips or pieces of gear that must be acquired?!? I'm not concerned with spoilers, its gonna be fun no matter what.

Also, I haven't played a PS since the first or second one... This controller is so weird. The analog sticks move differently... They're looser in feel. And its weird having the R/L buttons being in reverse of the Xbox controller. For example, L1/R1 is zoom/fire which is slightly weird to me. Also, I don't have the buttons memorized and I was playing with the lights off so I kept thinking, "Which one of these fucking buttons is X?" I kept hitting circle.

The other weird thing was, when I set the PS3 up, it wouldn't make any sound. Amy did some googling and I had to hold the power button and jump through some hoops before we got it to work. Also, the PS3 menu is tsrange coming from an Xbox. Some stuff feels like it takes a couple extra button presses more than it would on Xbox.

None of the above is bad, just gonna take some getting used to. I'm also gonna take this opportunity to play of some of the PS exclusives. I've never played or really even seen any of the Uncharted series, nor the God of War series. Any other exclusives worth checking out?

Murdoch wrote:Yeah, it really opens up after you finish what you're trying to do now. You're really going to want to upgrade your shivs. They're the most important weapon for stealth, AND it's the only way that you can really keep the clickers under control. I know you haven't encountered a clicker yet, but they will give you nightmares when you do. The only way to kill them is with a shiv, or copious amounts of gunfire (and I mean a LOT), which only attracts more baddies, and ammo is at an absolute premium in this game. You need to save as much as you can.

Yep. I find myself very nervous when I am wandering around without at least 2 shivs. Clickers are never alone. I always seem to have one less than needed as well.

I got stuck in that basement warehouse room where there's like 6 of them for a little while (maybe 2 hours in). That's when I started getting better at this game

Ya I haven't gotten to the point where anything is upgradeable yet (don't think so anyways). I had a feeling shivs were going to be important. After my first shiv kill Amy was like, "you're gonna need more of those."

I can't wait to see what these clickers are about. I'm playing on Normal difficulty right now. After I beat it I'll do another playthrough on the hardest difficulty.

I know exactly where you're talking about. It's not a basement warehouse, though I can easily see why you would think that's what it is. :) I won't say what it is because I don't want Shea to be prepared at all for it when he gets there. There are more than 6 in there, and having to get the last one out of the way just so you can progress...Jesus, I remember the first time I went through that. Talk about tense.

But I misspoke...you DO get a silent weapon that can kill clickers later on the game, but it's MUCH later on, and by that time, you will have needed the upgraded shivs many, many times over.

I'm further now, hoping to get a car from some dude. Who knows. Looks like I'm almost to him

The problem with that room was the last guy always got me. I'd take everyone out and I'd be in the little room and I wouldn't be able to shoot him before he ripped out my jugular

So whats up with the focused hearing? Its basically like detective mode in Arkham or Eagle vision in Assassins Creed? I noticed there is, or what appears to be a a sound/noise meter around enemies head but I couldn't tell if it was changing as I moved near an enemy.

Also, does staying crouched keep your noise level to a minimum like most stealth games? Do you find yourself staying crouched a lot of the time, like in that warehouse basement for example?

So I'm reading an article on this game and I didn't realize there was a bow and arrow in this game. How are the mechanics? Is it fun to use? Is it Worth it? I'm guessing it would be for silent ranged kills.

It's very similar to Detective mode in the Batman games, yeah. Though you can go into the options and turn it off if you want to.

Not only does staying crouched keep your noise level down, there are different levels of noise in crouched mode. Get used to the sensitivity of that left thumb stick. Clickers are these things with no faces, only mouths. Saying what they are will do absolutely nothing at all to diminish the tension the game creates when they're around, that's why I'm describing them. They detect shit by echolocation, like bats. If you walk upright, they will grab you and you're dead. There's no fighting them off. They catch you, you die. If you move at maxed crouch speed and get near one, it will hear you, and you will die. You have to crouch and just BARELY move along to ensure that you can sneak up on one.
'

Cool this was helpful, thanks Murdoch. I kinda figured crouching movement speed mattered. I crouched up to do a dude for a stealth kill and he heard me and turned around and attacked. I think I was moving at full crouch speed and after playing a ton of stealth games I should know better.

Also good to know that clickers = death. I will proceed with the utmost caution. :D

I'm supposed to jam tonight but part of me wants to cancel so I can play this game. But the Left Paul needs lovin'... :wait:

Yeah, that's the other silent weapon I was talking about that you get later on. It works very well, but you don't get it until way later. Until then, you HAVE to keep yourself armed with shivs.

Ok, for reference I just got the now and arrow and am like 10 minutes past that part. Seems like it'll be helpful.

When I'm low on shivs I'm lookin EVERYWHERE for stuff to make them. Frantically

Was the bow and arrow hard to find, or are you given it as a quest reward?
