Canada is really fucking the dog with its vaccine rollout so I'm not going to be on any list until June/July at the soonest. Damn my youth and not working in a vulnerable sector making me a low priority.

We have two novel technologies being deployed simultaneously and with significantly reduced safeguards via extended testing in order to say definitively that's it's safe. These technologies are VERY promising for future vaccines and have a lot of potential, but it's perfectly reasonable for someone to be hesitant.

I'm not comfortable with the first generation of any technology, especially when it's known that the R&D and testing was absolutely fast tracked in ways not done previously. I will patiently await further data.

I stand corrected, sir! The CDC reports a covid vaccine death rate of 0.0018%.
Yes, I am aware that the vaccine has been fast tracked. Phase 3 studies cannot be properly completed in less then 2 years.
Still, the latest studies are saying that the vaccine is effective at preventing hospitalization should you get infected.
NY State just opened vaccinations for people 60+ so, I'll be registering today.

More on topic - I wonder what the death rates were during the first year for some vaccines that are now considered common and/or are required for children. Somewhat irrelevant considering the different delivery approach, but it would be an interesting data point...

I'd like to know how many peoples have died after receiving the vaccination from covid . Not from the vaccination but from covid . Can't find a single solid source for this .

Why wasn't there a national (or global) campaign around general health and weight loss?

-Multi-national multi-continental studies of severe to fatal cases of COVID show a very high (greater than .8) correlation to vitamin D deficiency.

Why wasn't there a national campaign (or global) campaign around getting out in the sun (oh yeah lockdown) or supplementing vitamin D?

-There has been virtually zero confirmed cases of COVID that were transmitted outdoors anywhere in the world.

Why hasn't there been a national campaign about getting outside (vitamin D) and enjoying your life outdoors maskless when not in groups, and why did we shut down a lot of outdoor activity and recreation like trails and national parks?


We should have been shaming your poor health habits instead of shaming your Thanksgiving gathering. We should have kept outdoor activity open instead of locking you indoors and making your vitamin D levels and mental health drop even more. Teen suicides, drug overdoses, suicides, and divorces have skyrocketed. We have yet to take a full tally of the damage done by the choices we made. How many guys here have depressed children? If my 5 kids didn't have each other they'd be clinically depressed. I can't imagine being an only kid over this last year.

I've been quite literally disgusted and it's been revealing that our leadership, experts, and sense making institutions are completely incapable of correctly disseminating a mass existential threat to the public. They offer simple but inaccurate rubrics (double mask stupidity for example) and change the recommendations in a manner that reveals that they don't expect us to question anything. Remember when Fauci said masks don't do anything to protect you, and then admitted he lied on purpose so that there wasn't a buyup of n95 masks? How many infections and deaths were caused during those weeks that people believed his first recommendation?

I'm never going to forgive leaders, experts, and the media. It's been very revealing about how corrupted and inept our institutions have become. We have a LONG fucking way to crawl out.

Are you kidding me? That "campaign" has been going on for longer than my lifetime. Every American knows they should eat right and exercise, avoid junk food blah blah. That's possibly the most well-divulged health information in this country.

NO ONE is fat because of lack of awareness. Not a single one. People are fat either because they do not give a fuck or because they love junk food so much they deal with the consequences or for whatever excuse they come up.

I got severely overweight for a while. The whole time I knew what to do to fix it and knew the health consequences of it, until I decided to actually get my shit together.

Every fat person knows what to do about it. There is ZERO need for a campaign about this. What people need to do is start giving a shit and and stop being a Ding-Dong eating lazy fuck.. Come on.

We all probably had it already anyway . I know I had something that I never experienced last feb/ dec. Who knows . We kinda know it was in the country before we were alerted to it . But Imma sheep , law abiding and all that so I tend to play along with the leaders rules . However I'm still on the fence , I want to get it but... I have a rare autoimmune disease that is mostly lung related and there has been little to no studies on peoples with my condition. I'm perfectly fine , I don't need to treat it or do anything up until the day it kills me so I just don't know what to do .. yet

There's a big difference between the campaign you're talking about and a campaign that directly correlates being overweight and obesity to high death rates of COVID. There were more news segments focused on limiting your holiday gatherings than there were segments giving it to you straight about how decades of poor health habits were exacerbating the pandemic.

Not a single billboard in Los Angeles mentioned this.

No there isn't. Every person over 5 y.o. knows being fat directly correlates to dying early whether it's heart attack, diabetes whatever. They don't care. Add covid to the list, that's fine. Can't hurt.

It's not an awareness issue. Most fat people I know actually know a lot about nutrition because they read about every diet out there. They just don't follow it or don't stick with it. Many of them even have their BMI memorized. They are aware.

and hey... joking aside.. I'm not going to judge people for being fat, I've been there myself, several members of my family have that problem... I will say this though: It's NOT due to lack of awareness!! We all know.

Whether or not overweight and obese people are aware that they risk a lot of health problems, I disagree that there was much attention placed on the issue as it directly relates to COVID. Most people aren't aware that nearly 3/4's of all deaths in the US were people who were overweight to being obese. There was talk of "pre-existing conditions", sure.

But even conceding the point of there having been some form of awareness around obesity and COVID morbidity, information was not disseminated in helpful ways throughout the course of the pandemic and I'm disgusted by the failed leadership, expertise, and sense making. We did not respond to this in a coherent manner and we were certainly capable of doing so.

Had this pandemic been of a more deadly virus we'd be royally fucked. I have no faith that we'll fare well against the next one if there is another, or any other mass public health crisis.

Much dissonance, much damage.
