I support the right to bear arms. I still think a pink rifle marketed to kindergarteners is dumb as balls and courting disaster.

"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

If Lindsey Lohan's panties had guns this never would have happened.

Here's where that family lives:
As you can see, this family should definitely be spending their money on guns built for children.
is it bad that I look at this picture and instantly hear "dueling Banjos"?
I look at this picture and instantly want to start chugging Bud Light.

Guns don't kill people, five year olds do.

Joan Face: Alright, Mr. Mainway. But surely even you can see the danger in this next costume, which you call Johnny Combat Action Costume. This is an actual working rifle!
Irwin Mainway: An M-1, yeah.
Joan Face: I mean, this is a deadly weapon, and you're selling it to children!
Irwin Mainway: The ammo's not included. I mean, this is a very popular item, you know? Give the kid a little something extra! Field glasses, a little helmet there, the gun, you know, it makes 'em feel like a real general! I mean, this product is very popular in Texas and Detroit!

Lots of parts of the country it's fairly normal for younger kids to learn to shoot and hunt at 8 or 9. Having a rifle which is built specifically for their stature to do so with is actually good sense as that's safer than trying to manipulate a larger, heavier weapon.
As others have mentioned, the issue isn't the ergonomics of the rifle, nor the marketing. It's the fact that the parents are unabridged fucktards and left the thing sitting around loaded and the mother was most likely out on the front stoop smoking a joint while the kid shot his younger sibling.
