I love this game so much. I'm on my second playthrough now. First time I rushed the campaign to see the ending and skipped a lot of side missions. Now I'm back in chapter 3, just upgraded all of the satchels, and now I'm going to hunt all the legendary animals. Still deciding on whether I want to hunt and craft all the camp upgrades from Pearson. Speaking of which, I find hunting in this game really fun. There are more mechanics involved than most hunting sims.

And ya the challenges are some serious grinding. I was thinking about 100%ing this game but after looking over the challenges, I'm not sure I'll have the patience.

I'm so slow , I'm really just still at the beginning , walking around looking at shit but I went "online" I highly recommend you get in there and get going on your character leveling . The story missions are super fun . I'm level 9 :D

I think I'm a level 7 online... Mostly fucked around and had gun fights with people.

I spent a bunch of time this weekend advancing the offline. Keep any significant valuables Arthur collects...

Did you make it into a saloon? They were playing christmas songs on the piano.

So far I haven't played online a ton. Lacking content to me so far but I've got faith it could be good. Plus I still haven't finished single player.

I mean I've played online to complete the full story, hunt a bunch, and buy some stuff but thats it.
I hate showdowns right now due to the varmint rifle and my poor skills.

Ya online is basically a shell at the moment. Hopefully it will get better once they add more content. I'm hoping for single player DLC, like Undead Nightmare 2.

yeah it's a beta on the xbox . I'm hoping they make it like GTA online but that is wishful thinking . Fun though . I love free roam and wide open worlds so for me it's good fun . I gotta get back to the main game though :D

I like it too but I want more shit to do beside competitive PVP. I want a shit ton of co-op style content. Hunting tournaments. Posse Raids. Rockstar could do something unique with this online mode and I hope they do.

I hope so or GTAV will still be #1 in another 5 years and they will be working on RDR4 ?

What's the TL;DR version of this thread? Is this a game that a non-gamer looking for something different would like? I enjoyed First-Person Shooters and, especially, Flight Simulators, on PC back in the day. I just couldn't warm-up to console controllers. I only recently started using my Xbox One X because I found a couple of golf games I like. Given that, I'm looking for something else. Is Red Dead Redemption worth a look for someone like me?

Think of it as GTA set in the wild west, if you're familiar with that. It's slower paced (you're riding a horse to get places a lot, even once you unlock quick travel from your camp and train/stagecoaches only go to settlements. There's not a giant variety in missions (mostly robberies/assassinations/scouting missions for the main story) , but there are tons of side quests, stuff to hunt/fish/find/collect, hilarious random encounters, etc. The game world is stunningly beautiful even on an old X1. You can play in first person mode if you want... still using a controller though for that...

Cool, thanks. I might give it a try. When it's cold and gray during winter, there's not much to do. Should probably be playing guitar, though

I just started playing this. Since my son generally needs to eat at midnight, I stay up with him til then and play this in the meantime. Gotta say, I love it. Makes me want to go back and actually finish the first when I finish this one.

I finally finished it a week or two ago.
Great game, had tears in my eyes twice during the ending.

Thought I'd want to 100% it but i just don't know if I care enough to put in the work.

I’m on the second epilogue. But yeah that last mission of chapter 6... men cried during that. I did. Might be one of the best games I’ve ever played.

It's funny thinking that there was a time in the second or 3rd chapter (upon entering Rhodes) that I was like "fuck this is a low burn", but it makes it all more worthwhile. I am working on doing all the side stuff after completing the epilogue. And still running into the odd stranger mission while out and about. And running into even STRANGER shit while just on tour. (Feral man)

I would say it was the best game I've ever played, without hesitation. Dan Houser is likely the best writer of media formats to emerge in my lifetime.

I just finished Master Hunter level 6 challenge... kill 5 cougars with a bow and skin 5. I think they did that so you don't just jack the cougar with explosive arrows (which I did for 2 or 3 of them).

Those fuckers... even if you're looking for one they get the jump on you most of the time.
