Yeah great show. Watched both seasons a couple weeks ago. It's cheesy in a huge sense but also highly entertaining with an ever evolving plot. I like how there really isn't a clear hero/antagonist dynamic between between Daniel, Johnny or any of their students. Honestly Daniel has been generally not all that likeable through much of it and frankly I've been rooting against Johnny's son the entire time honestly. Fuck that kid.

It's the haircut

The combination of Morita and Macchio (sp?) with the 80s soundtrack excellence made the original such a snapshot in time. Serious feels attached to that movie. As sappy as it is. The show is triggering the same-ish in me; albeit in a different direction for the "opposite" group of characters. It's definitely cheesy but they do a great job with it nonetheless.

I don't think Terry Silver is Miguel's dad. No way. Terry would have mentioned Karate/CobraKai/etc. to Miguel's mom at SOME point. It was his life. SO, I think that's busted.

I think Miguel's Dad is a drug lord from Ecuador. He finds out that Robbie nearly killed his son. He sends a fucking hit squad like Alejandro Sosa to kill Robbie.

This is why Daniel MUST take Robbie to Okinawa. To hide. There was already a hint that Robbie was interested in Okinawa when Daniel looked into Robbie's gym bag at his home dojo.

Shoot, the hit squad might be after Johnny as well. Maybe, Daniel, Johnny, and Robbie all go to Okinawa to refocus.

It will be interested to see if Daniel and his wife break up, and Johnny and Daniel start fighting over Alli again.

She's an interesting character.

She is unfortunately, to her detriment, from the real world point of view of now.
-Tries to put the rivalry into perspective. Tells Daniel how ridiculous it is.
-Tries to be a cool mom. enabling parties and general misbehaviour
-Encourages daughter to hang out with mean girls.
-Tries to convey to Daniel that Louie the cousin is a loser and needs to go.
-Lets Anthony do whatever the fuck he wants. etc.

The entire rest of the cast is from the Karate Kid fantasy world. It's strange, because as the audience we are drawn into the fantasy world as well. We "get" it. Daniel's wife doesn't. She's the enemy of the fantasy, even though she's the only realistic character.

Stingray will kill somebody in season 3. When he won the coyote creek challenge, that wasn't just comic relief. Sensei Kreese saw a Cobra come out and strike hard. Kreese sees himself. He sees commitment with a lack of honor. He sees potential. He sees himself in Vietnam jumping out of a hole behind an unsuspecting victim.

Wifey and I watched it a couple of months ago. It was a nice time-passer. Agreed about the lack of/everyone's an antagonist at some point. Daniel is definitely a vindictive asshole from time to time. Even I have let things from 34 years ago pass
