I would agree with this list.... you could put Sepultura in there somewhere as mentioned.

we used to rock the shit out of this album around that time....prob not worthy of being on the 5-8 list though.

F&J still put out good albums, imo. A big problem a lot of people have is with his more traditonal styled metal vocals but I love it :rawk:

For those pushing Death Angel towards the back of the line...have you heard any of their last three albums? They're getting heavier, meaner, and flat-out better in a way that really only Testament can hold a candle to these days. Even Osegueda's vocals - once among the weakest and most annoying of any major thrash band - have gotten pretty damn good. Granted, only Cavestany and Osegueda are left from the 1987 lineup, but you could say similar things about Megadeth or Anthrax or Testament.

agree. there is some great thrash stuff on this album imo.

we could spin Master of Puppets and put this on afterwards and keep right on moshin.

it's no surprise that Metallica would steal Jason Newsted from them.

Ben; the last DA album had a few tracks I caught that were pretty solid. Back in the day; they started off pretty vicious (Ultra-Violence :rawk: :rawk: ) but then went semi-funk metal on Frolic. I dug it and Act III quite a bit, but not for my thrash needs. They came back with a new album here in the early part of the 2000s and it struck me as really bland for whatever reason. Edited for Art of Dying. That album was a snoozefest imo.

I agree. I think there more recent offerings are stronger than their earlier years imo.

I still really like this one from the early days: :rawk:

Oddly enough I always LOVED AK's vocals. Just saw them a few weeks ago and they were amazing. Kempers on both sides of the stage as well.

I will agree here. They are putting out the best stuff of their career IMHO. Guitar tones are excellent. I felt they had a lot of mid tempo stuff which gets on my nerves with metal but they are making some killer stuff that I will need to revisit.

I WISH Laaz would put something out already. Oh, and Josh Christian needs to get that damn Toxik album done!!!

I agree about Death Angel over the last 5 years have been spectacular. His vocals are fucking amazing, if he took this spproach to vox back in the day they would have been so much more popular imo.

I still think for OVERALL best of (I don't put a lot of stock in the Big 4...)

Destruction
Sodom
Kreator
Slayer
Metallica
Testament

Overkill
Megadeth
Exodus / Death Angel

There are SOOOO many killer thrash bands that I like better than Anthrax like:

Laaz Rockit
Vio-Lence
Forbidden
Tankard
Zoetrope
Nuclear Assault

The list goes on!

I fully agree with Forbidden. I love their vocal approach, and Tim Calvert is a monster.

But Zoetrope? Man, their best song was a Megadeth throwaway song.

Wasn't he like 15 back in the day? I'm not sure he even hit puberty yet. Probably couldn't have sang like he does now back then.
