Aside StevieRayVaughnabe's.. Whats the draw to those things anyway? I dont get the fascination with them
he made amps that most who play describe as the greatest thing ever to only elite rockstars of his choice like SRV and Santana. i think he only made a couple hundred of them. there were waiting lists for years if you ever even got one at all. you are paying more for the history and lore than actual tone

The crystal lattice escaped the Dumble and stuck on the walls.

i thought you were kidding about the steely dan & carlton riffs on the rock/metal thread.
i've had a book of transcriptions from carlton's 1st two albums *forever* - finally opened it up. I'm using a VST to make backing tracks from those records. I also got a copy of the scuffham amps demo which seems to do well for those type of tones. i'm committed bro.. Lol
edit: i'm even practicing my carlton grin

Yep, no joke. Absolutely love Steely Dan and Larry Carlton. Once I learned to butcher the Kid Charlemagne solo, I became obsessed with trying to play in that style. Now all I do is mess around with my MKIV settings trying to either get more of that Larry Carlton self titled tone like on Room 335 or I try to get that break up like on Don't Take Me Alive.

I just checked out the Scuffham site and that suite looks pretty cool. I'd be interested to hear how you like The Duke sim. Any ported G12-65 or EV-12L 1x12 cab sims?

I would say the majority of people who buy Dumbles do so as an investment, and not because they think their tone is going to sound 50 times better than a $1000 amp. Some collectible amps (like the Dumble) appreciate at a higher rate than collectible cars and carry much less risk than stocks. At the very least, the buyer will be able to sell the amp for the same amount that he purchased it for. So he's not really spending anything on it. It's free. He's turning his money into a different form, and when he's done with the amp he will turn it back into cash. With that in mind a $50,000 Dumble is a far better buy than a brand new Mesa which will be worth half it's original value when you go to sell it. So the Dumble will cost you $0 over its lifetime (and possibly gain you several thousand) while the Mesa will lose you about $500-$1000.
