i would say a vast majority of people dont have the savings for the amount of time they are now talking about closing things down.

if you own or work at a gym, music or sports venue, clothing store, used car lot, etc.....

what are we talking about here? is a total closure of society longer than a couple of weeks even an option?

compound that with the ability to get it again.... yikes.

I agree. That speaks to the complete failure at the front end of this situation.

Some professionals in Europe are actually saying a real containment effort for this could last months. I don't think any part of our economy, top to bottom, is prepared for a shut-down like what's happening now to last months. Us work from homers may be fine for now, but if we're ordered to shutter the plant there won't be any income for the company which will eventually lead to no income for any of us.

The wife and I have a cushion, but even so it's gonna be rough if that goes down.

I have a sad feeling there will be a lot of lower income folks diving on their credit to get by and hoping and praying they can pay it off when things pick back up if something drastic doesn't happen. OR people will just stop listening to the recommendations to stay home after a time. It's a bad sitch all the way around.

Thats the thing I'm concerned about, extremely long term economic disorder.
Do we end up having to do some really dystopian math at some point?
Will we hit a point where there are risks via economic shutdown that are greater than fatality rates for certain age groups?

Since this is America, it's almost guaranteed we will at some point value economic recovery over life and health. Though I'm not sure how far we'll push before we hit that point.

I just wonder if we are reacting too extremely. China's death toll stands near the 3,000 mark with a population 4 times larger than ours. They seem to be stabilizing, with only one new case reported today.

I dunno, it seems we may be tanking our economy for something less damaging than our yearly flu outbreaks.

However, I'm taking it seriously and following all the suggested precautions. I take care of my 86 year old parents, so my number 1 concern is keeping them away from exposure. They have great-grandchildren aged 5 and 8 who are always at the house. I'm trying to put a stop to that for now but the rest of the family doesn't see the need to do that. That's frustrating for me.

I think the biggest fear right now is running into hospital overflow if we get all the cases we're going to get all at once. Yeah, it seems extreme, but it may be our best bet to not lose lives unnecessarily. "Flattening the curve" as they say, could make it easier for our health care system, such as it is, to not be completely overwhelmed.

Time will tell if that works out for us or not.

Any way we slice it, the economic impact is going to be huge.

It's any way you slice it, ya freakin' ass turd.

"Any Way You Slice It"

I caught the tail of a hurricane and I've never ever been the same
I went out on a limb, gotcha under my skin, well alright
You got dirt under your fingernails
What I'm thinkin' can land me in jail
Well, you're caught in this trap and you can never go back
Well, oh no no

I know you wanna cross the border and you know the doctor's orders
Well it's better late than never, can't stay innocent forever
It's alright, it's alright, yeah

Any way you slice it, any way you slice it
You know you can't deny it, any way you slice it
You're hot under the collar
Ain't your mother's little daughter anymore

Ooh, ain't no wolf on the corner, can't keep it in any longer
Well if you're lookin' for bliss
What I got you can't miss, well alright

When it works like a charm it'll do you no harm
You'll be in heaven tonight
I know you'll feel alright

Any way you slice it, any way you slice it
You know you can't deny it, any way you slice it
I know what's in your heart, I know what's in your mind

Any way you slice it, any way you slice it
You know you can't deny it, any way you slice it
You're hot under the collar
Ain't your mother's little daughter anymore

I know you wanna cross the border and you know the doctor's orders
Well it's better late than never, can't stay innocent forever
No, no, no, no

Yeah, alright
Well, if I told you once, I told you twice
Just listen, babe, and take my advice
Why settle for seconds when you can have the best
So let me be your king bee, I want your hornets nest

Jesus Chrap on a cracker, DBN. :cop:

So, the government is now asking tech companies to help them implement citizen tracking through cellphones and devices. In the name of helping prevent large gatherings and to better track the spread of the disease, of course.

I'm sure they'll shut all that off once this passes.

One more step down the road to our lovely dystopian future. Yay!

The US needs to quarantine NOW before shit hits the fan. China did it and seemingly it is working. Italy and France are now doing the same thing now but both wishing they had taken it more seriously sooner. Wake the fuck up People. Flatten the curve.

My kids vocal and dance lessons have all shifted online. Kind of sucks to implement quickly, but vocal teaching can work this way. I'm sure you thought of that. This whole thing blows, hope it works out for you.

yeah she has several online students so that's still going, but the bulk of it comes from the school. It seems like the school is planning to set up for online classes next week too so that would be good.

My company just announced a 10% pay reduction for everyone until the end of the year. But I guess it's better than not having a job.

The Good: most people my area are being responsible and reasonable. Went to the grocery store today and it was calm with decent traffic. Absolutely no toilet paper in the place, though

The Bad: I just read an article about "Coronavirus truthers" and now I want to punch a rhino.

that's kind of on you too isn't it? Why read garbage and hysteria? There are plenty of information there from official sources (WHO, CDC etc). There's not going to be a website that is going to break some news that the WHO is not reporting.

We must be on own editors/gatekeepers these days. Just because information is "out there", it doesn't mean it's good information.

I actually was readkng a solid source for news. I feel like knowing the extremes makes me more informed. Trust me--i did NOT go deeper into the crazy.

Also some of this crap is coming directly from members of Congress so it is important to know who they are.
